It's a bit crammed but the food and service are both worth the visit. My wife said that the bacalhau was dandy. My steak was good too. Go for it!

it's a brave man to tell my wife how to eat her food, but the friendly owner was so shocked that he had to intervene with the cod and put her right. The boiling olive oil goes over the dry cod, and the salad stays on the serving dish - obvious.

Upon entering this restaurant just after 12pm we were greeted warmly and ushered into the kitchen to look at the special's that were being cooked for lunch. It seemed churlish not to opt for these and so our party tried the cuttlefish and bean stew; cod, potato and egg; as well as the pork and sauce potatoes. All were delicious... More

We were lucky to get a table on a very rainy lunchtime, and thought it was good value and with a great atmosphere. One of our two first courses did not arrive: the waiter spotted this without us asking, apologised profusely, and gave us a free starter "so that you can eat together". He then gave us two free coffees... More

Passed here after the customary custard tart and watched chef cooking fish in the window. Set the taste buds going and after walking around town returned to eat. Just sat a bar for a snack and while waiter was ok he was not over friendly. We had morcelo and legume plus a plate of chips - all yummy and reasonable... More

Small and unimpressive from outside , this restaurant is not to be missed. Local, fresh produce....plenty of friendly advice from staff. They let us try the sardines because, although we wanted them, they are not in season and at their best. They were delicious! We chose 2 of the specials- sea bream and espada. Both came with wonderful boiled potatoes ( typically... More

This is a great lively eating place very near the Jeronimo' s monastery. The menu is restricted but waiters keep coming back to offer some more. Staff very friendly and helpful. Some speak many languages... Great sword fish dish.

I had a salt cod fish served with salad and vegetables, on request. My partner had the pork ribs; these were amazing, definitely the better choice and much less fatty than ribs normally are. We were offered more sides for free, which was nice. The staff were attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed. One single criticism is that we were charged... More

We were here because of the excellent review. The staff is friendly, the service is good and fast, but the food is really mediocre, and the price is not that cheap at all. I can not understand why the rating is so high.

Staying in Belem

Neighbourhood Profile
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
