I had the baskets of eels. Lovely presentation and tasty. Never had anything like it before. Service also OK & view is excellent for people watching. A bit pricey, but you're paying for location. Good happy hours.

This is one of the worst places I have ever eaten. The food took over an hour to arrive, was cold and the order was completely wrong. The staff were extremely rude and didn't even apologise for the terrible service. My friends food had a hair in it and they didn't even offer to replace it. Such a shame as... More

We visited the 'Can the Can' on several ocasions. A very nice outside space with views to across the square, the central statue, the archway and the river. Reasonably priced drinks, clean area and facilities. Attentive staff. Overall it is a pleasant place to while away an hour or so in the afternoon sun. They have a good sound system,... More

What a concept for a restaurant and I must say well executed. The food was great, the interior (even though we didn't sit there) was very good and the staff were friendly. Its expensive though and could you get equally good food cheaper, yes.

the restaurant is very stylish and hip. Only, it can be a bit loud. The food was good, with interesting flavours. Desserts were lovely. Service a bit slow.

The staff here are really friendly at can the can. The food was delicious, especially the tuna samosas with mango relish and the cuttlefish was great. The sangria was yummy too! Would defo go back as it was great value for money in a fab location.

ME and my friend decided to try this restaurant in our first night in Lisbon. I had read a review in the Lufthansa newspaper, and it was described as a new type of restaurant, with canned food and so on. So we went there on a Wednesday evening, and it was completely empty. Nevertheless, we went inside and ordered some... More

Had lunch here with friends - very good although service a bit slow and not a lot of interaction with staff.

We had a lovely Sunday morning breakfast here out in front right on the plaza of the Praca del Comercio. Excellent and skillfully-prepared cappuccino, delicious pastries, and ok seafood tapas: we we're hoping that the anchovies would be less salty, and our octopus croquettes were tasty and interesting, though with the sameness that deepfried food has. The servers were friendly,... More

Partner and I ordered a ham and cheese toastie, tuna sandwich and chips. The tastier was €8,80 so I was a little shocked at the price however when it came out, it was essentially 2 toasties in one. It was huge and made on freshly baked bread so it was really tasty. My partner's tuna sandwich had orange slices on... More

Conserves have always been around. But there is one small group of them (and one that it is worth getting to know) that resides at the margins of Lisbon's Terreiro do Paço – or, more precisely, at the Can the Can restaurant. This is a place where Portuguese canned and fresh foods meet every day and where, at the hands of chef Akis Konstantinidis, they combine to create a new concept in Mediterranean cuisine.Various typically Portuguese products are on show here, such as, for example, the best Port wines. And if you find that you like them as much as we think you may, you can always take them with you, too, courtesy of our first-floor store. On top of all this, we believe that if we sometimes eat with our eyes, then our ears can also help us to savour the best flavours. That's why you will find your meal accompanied by Portuguese guitar music every afternoon on the terrace and, in the evenings, by unique kinds of Fado. Our FadoLab project is the place where the Fado of yesteryear meets and is rejuvenated by Fado styles of today in a musical atmosphere free of grand ceremony or rules of behaviour. With all this in mind, we wish to say no more than our door is always open and no-one needs to ask in advance if they may enter. You'll find us here at your disposal.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
