During a memorable first visit to Lisbon last month, we stumbled upon the Blue Crow and its lovely owner Paula whilst visiting the castle and sheltering from the rain, the only shower during an otherwise beautiful week. Enjoyed a wonderful visit sharing red wine, cheese and bread with Paula, a very friendly hostess with a genuine love of Portuguese wine... More

What a great little place this is, we were really pleased to stumble across this bar and enjoy the craft beer, the cheese and meats were the best for me! Very relaxing atmosphere and knowledgeable staff.

After cattle walked down quiet street to the left. Popped in for a drink and were met by the lovely Paula. So knowledgeable about her well sourced products. Excellent wine with great advice. Don't miss this gem

We just stopped for coffee but stayed for wine, nibbles and shopping. The host Paula knows her wine and encouraged us to try different wines etc. We then had some nibbles. A really good experience. The wines are high quality and reasonably priced

We stumbled across this place after visiting the castle. The friendly server was very informative with the craft beers and the selection of cheese was fantastic. The Stardust IPA he recommended was amazing and the shot of Ginja was deliciously sweet! Worth checking out!

Tiny little place with 10 covers by the castle. Fantastic service. Beautiful food. Delicious wine. Everything we ate was locally sourced and the host was friendly, knowledgeable and caring. So pleased we decided to try it. Try the almonds and egg dessert sweets. We bought wine to take home with us too. Beautiful little place :)

A little miracle just up from the entrance to the San Jorge castle. Watch out for the sign of the blue crow. The doorway is easily missed, but the spotless interior serves food and wine - and on this hot day, a wonderful range of Portuguese craft beer. Two beers, and a perfect insight into a real life here. The... More

After a morning exploring the castle, my wife and I spotted this restaurant and decided to stop for lunch. We walked in and were instantly greeted by a smart and enthusiastic gentleman and shown to our seats. The restaurant seats 10 people and there is good selection of local craft beers and Portuguese wine. I had a LX beer and... More

We stumbled into this place trying to escape the rain and ended up staying for hours! The wine selection is fantastic: they're all locally-produced and very unique. We also had the cheese platter which was super tasty, again with all locally-produced cheeses. The owner is extremely friendly and was always ready to recommend something. In the end we bought some... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
