What a bad experience. We had a pastel de Belem. Dry, poorly presented, the dough was not crunchy, the scrambled eggs dry, they added a bit of dry old bad parmesan like cheese on top of the eggs and charged us 2 euros per person. The pastel de belem that go from 0.5 to 1 euro ( for the best)... More

I come from what is considered the wettest capital city in Europe, but in the few days we were in Lisbon, it certainly gave the impression that Lisbon was more so!! In one of these intervening deluges, we made a dash for this place, quite amazing, we certainly went to the right place, the friendliest staff, just a really big... More

We stopped here for a beer on a cold rainy day. We as,t under the awning to get out of the rain but the awning had big holes in it and we got wet anyway. At their prices they should be able to afford a new awning.

Stopped for a relaxing drink after a hard day sight seeing. Ignorant, arrogant and miserable staff, over priced drinks and a poor view (in front of tourist bus pickup). No heating under canopy and awful uncomfortable chairs. Give this place a miss.

Had the fried fish with white rice and salad. Fish was fresh and the local beer was good (not a beer drinker) service was 4 star. Def. would come back.

Lunch on the pavemnet outdoors in January - that is nice. But this place is not so nice. We were not vey hungry so one had a Croque Monsieur (small, not roasted, bad) and the other a toast with sardines (canned, and very uninspiring dish). A disappointment. the service was slow, without any smile, and without showing that they wanted... More

Eventually took our order ten minutes after sitting down despite trying to attract waiters attention. Waiters seemed to deliberately avoid eye contact. Particularly frustrating wait as a moustachioed 'majordomo' strutted around pompously. Twenty minutes after ordering, two luke warm mediocre coffees arrived. Trying to get bill was similarly painful and even more so when it was for 7.50 Euro. The... More

We were looking for a sunny breakfast. The coffee is well located; on the Figueira's Place. We took two coffees, two orange juice and three Pastel Nata. Orange juice is very fresh, very nice. The pastel Nata are very good with a very good taste... And the sun is coming on the place ! A very good morning... But we... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
