We liked it so much we dined here again on our last night. Very stylish restaurant, with atmospheric location on the Rua Santa Maria, close to the Fort, overlooking the Atlantic. The menu is innovative, with its emphasis on rice, and the food delicious, & nicely presented. Staff are very pleasant, and the service excellent. Great place if you are... More

Saw this restaurant as we wandered up the road and instantly vowed to visit during our trip to Madeira. The terrace is right above the crashing waves so the noise does sometimes mean that conversation is difficult. The service and the food were very good. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Madeira. Perhaps the chef could expand... More

We ate here on Christmas Eve as we were worried most places would be closed. It was fortunate we booked as we got the last table. We sat in a rather drafty corner and the service was enthusiastic but somewhat haphazard. Although understandably a fixed menu because of the date, the food was flavoursome and interesting but could have been... More

Had been in November 2015 for dinner and had a wonderful meal and returned October 2016 for lunch and food was just as amazing but unfortunately we were the only diners in that day!! We were also disappointed that the tables were not clothed as they were on previous visit. We will return but hopefully more people will have discovered... More

Location is great, with sea view. There was a good range of options, and what we had was good. I had goats cheese and beetroot risotto. Other half had parrot fish with olive risotto which he enjoyed. The deserts were interesting, particulary the thing with black rice. House wine was nice too. My only criticosm was we asked for tap... More

The Riso Risottoria -at the edge of the Old Town. the Santa Maria district- has been a favorite of ours for many years. Fantastic location overlooking the sea. The first years they stuck to the concept that all dishes in the menu were based on rice in some way or the other. Rice from all over the world and sometimes... More

The location of Riso is a very special one. We visited there in a sunny day after the storm, but the waves were enormous. The service was a bit slow, but who cares, when the views were beautiful and especially watching the high-rise waves was entertainment itself? The food itself was average, a good lunch but nothing special.

Brilliant restaurant. There is the option to sit inside the restaurant or on the top of a rock area sticking out into the sea. This means that whilst you are enjoying the evening the sea is rolling in and out and the waves are crashing on the rocks below. Perfect. If the weather is a bit wet they have plastic... More
