This was our second visit for tea and it was just as enjoyable as before. Wonderful location looking over the sea, gentle piano music drifting out from room close by. Very attentive staff. Excellent fresh sandwiches, scones and cakes. Endless quality tea. An absolute treat.

As usual when we visit Madeira we always pay at least one visit to Reids for dinner, but not quite up to its usual standards this time, and terribly expensive. I do not like saying this as we have in the past had some most special and delightful times here especially when we have stayed. The furnishings and carpets are... More

Lovely experience, afternoon tea where Winston Churchill sat, Bernard Shaw, and many well known stars have dined. Must ware casual dress, tea about £30 each do just once for the experience

I attended dinner dance here on one evening. It is a beautiful room and was a very pleasant evening. There was a set menu but there was sufficient choice and the service was good. I think there were quite few people from outside the hotel and I think the evening would have been good value for money

The place not only offers excellent food but it is the atmosphere which makes it seem special. It is truly like stepping back in time - wonderful. Slightly steep, but worth it.

We had the Champagne gala dinner in the dining room (and I think it is only open two days a week) It is a buffet dinner but the choices for the cold or hot buffet must be at least fifty from each the most difficult part is deciding what to eat and the champagne is endless

My wife and I went to the Tuesday evening dinner dance here, and absolutely loved it. The setting is spectacular, and the hotel is like being 'upstairs' in Downton Abbey - simply beautiful. The food was great, and the music and atmosphere wonderful. I'm not sure if it happens every week, but we were lucky enough to also be welcomed... More

Went on a saturday to have a really nice dinner on one of our last days in Funchal. But this just didn't do it. 90 euros pp for a buffet with dry meat, little or nothing on the side, really quite boring food to choose from. It really had a snobby atmosphere, which I'm not used to at classy restaurants,... More
