The Service is pure class and so is the Food. Everything is handmade and very delicious! You have to taste the pumpkin ravioli. If you got any questions to the wine or food the service will answer it very good and explain it to you. You need to go here! We are coming back.

In the middle of August in the heart of Porto we found this little place by the river. Staff were beyond amazing! We were given little storage packages for our masks. We started with amazing local red wine by the chef to compliment the cheese board. To be honest I have never had such good cheese! Also, served with pumpkin jam. Then we had 3 main courses to try. Mashed potatoes with truffle, yolk, asparagus and cheese, then octopus with sweet potato purée and the fish with rice. We finished with chocolate mousse! I recommend!

My wife and I were meeting a couple of friends on the last day of their holiday and wanted to treat them to a special lunch. One of our searches suggested this place and I have to say that I'm glad we checked it out. It's right on the riverfront on the main Praça de Ribeira, overlooking the square, the river cruise boats and all the port wine houses on the Gaia side of the river. It's also a level above most of the places in the square and the riverfront at ground level, both situationally and in terms of quality of food and service. Service is impeccable: attentive without being intrusive, it's just right. I won't explain the menu here except to say that, rather than the usual starters and mains, dishes are either offered as being served hot or cold and are mid-sized, as in much bigger than a tapa but not a full plate, so you might need a couple of things if you're quite hungry. With a couple of baskets of mixed warm breads with butter and very good olive oil, several bottles of water and two portions of squid lollipops already put away, we each only needed one hot dish each, plus wine and dessert, obviously. We had 1½ bottles of a nice oaked white from Douro, which went down very well indeed. The bill was 165€ for four people eating as descibed above, which is several notches above my usual lunch budget, but it was a treat for friends as I said and to be honest I think we all felt that the food and the whole experience made it good value. I think I will be back with my wife for the five course chef's tasting menu with paired wines at 60€ a head on her birthday, but don't tell her - it's a surprise!

This is without a doubt the most shockingly rude service experience I have ever had. We were having a fine time, enjoying the good wine and good food, when near the end of our meal the female server (Julianna) came to tell us we were being too loud. We were engaged in normal conversation, and no one was yelling. Furthermore, the restaurant was not even half full at that point. I’m very sad to have to give 1 star, as the food was actually very good and the male server was quite pleasant. However, I’ve never been so taken aback by a comment as I was when Julianna told us to be quiet. I will add that this was after she up-sold us on 8 plates of food, which was far more than we wanted. Just incredibly bad service that ruined our experience completely. After spending well over 200 Euro, all of us left very displeased with the experience all due to one idiot’s mistake. Better training is needed, or perhaps new staff? The cherry on top of the horrible sundae was when Julianna told us they “don’t do” take home for the food we had leftover. Again, what a ridiculous concept of service after what we spent.

Superb in every way ! The service is top notch and the owner/waiters take their time to explain the dishes and wines. They have a good knowledge of their products and gave us advice on the combination of food items as well as wine pairing. The view is amazing if you reserve a table with a view. Make sure to order dessert too. Will definitely return!

I stayed for 3 nights at Gran Cruz House and ate in the restaurant each night. The location above the Ribeira is perfect. The menu suited me so well: small portions of really tasty food. It's not cheap but it doesn't need to be. The service is really excellent. I was on my own but didn't feel lonely because the staf were so welcoming. They reserved a table for me just inside the open windows so that I could see the wonderful view without being cold (but take a few layers Obviously I tried a number of dishes. I would specially recommend the sea bass tartar and the chicken thighs with morels and mashed potato. The wine is good too (I had the rose). I'm a picky person but, probably for the first time ever, I can't find any faults with this restaurant. I'd go back there in an instant. I've recommended it to friends and family.

I booked the Restaurante Casario before we set off on our mini break to Porto after looking at many different restaurant reviews online for where to celebrate my wife’s birthday. There is always a little trepidation that the reviews will meet with your own expectations on the day and this one had to be right on the mark. We arrived and were politely greeted & seated with a view of the lovely Douro river. My wife chose one of the local gins on offer whilst we perused the menu and loved it, a good start to our night. Having reviewed the menu we had some questions as to the fare that was listed, and we were expertly advised as to the composition of the dishes as we were with the local wines on offer which we wished to try. We were extremely happy with all the food that was presented and enjoyed by us both. All the dishes tasted as good as they looked. The staff were all very polite and attentive in the right measure. They explained and expressed a great knowledge of the food, wine and of course the local port. If you go to the Restaurante Casario please do ask questions about any aspect of your culinary delight as the staff will be more than happy to engage with you. As a husband trying his best to make his wife’s birthday special whilst visiting Porto I/we cannot say enough about our lovely evening that we shared there. If you wish visit upon checking The Restaurant Cesario’s own website and other independent reviews, I would suggest booking in advance so as not to be disappointed. In closing I would just say that upon asking we were informed that above the restaurant, GRAN CRUZ HOUSE have a small number of boutique rooms available which would be a great location to stay in Porto, and if that is not enough, we found that they also have an associated vineyard which is also available to visit and stay in. We will consider a possible follow up visit in the future to mop up any Porto attractions that we did not manage to visit this time around with another visit to the Restaurante Casario, which would have to be done, whilst moving on to a stay at their associated vineyard. Thank you again to all at the Restaurante Casario for making our night memorable. Martin & Jacqui Walker

We had heard great things about this restaurant and were so disappointed by the experience. We had made a reservation months before our trip and specifically asked for a terrace table so we could watch the river while eating. The diminutive and uber officious maitre'd said none were available and showed us to a table with no view. We ordered wine and he forgot to deliver it. They brought an appetizer and then realized they forgot to set dishes for the appetizer. They told us the dishes were intended for sharing but the portions were ultra small ( and prices ultra high). Food quality was at best average. I have to think that perhaps there has been a change in the management but my advice is that PORTO has so many great dining options that you should stay away from this place that's undeservedly so full of itself.

Lunch Saturday 02/07/2022. Seated outside. Had 5 course tasting menu with wine option. Seabass Tartare. Venison with orange zest (cold). Hake in onion/paprika local sauce. Slow roast pork belly. Creme Brulee / Hazelnut Praline. Staff explained every dish and every wine. They clearly understood the menu in detail. Service attentive without being obtrusive. Each dish faultless, served in a great location. You could argue that it's a bit pricey, but food of this quality does not come cheap. Will definitely return if we get back to Porto. Top tip. Take an inboard table on the terrace to avoid the attention of the seagulls. We got very lucky on a walk in, better to book ahead.

Amazing restaurant, it should definitely be visited. The food was outstanding and the service was also outstanding. Our waiter paired our meal with a gorgeous red wine and he explained each dish as it arrived. A beautiful view especially in the evening, would definitely recommend booking an outdoor table. Very friendly service…. highly recommend this restaurant.

At a small boutique hotel on the Porto side of the river, Grand Cruz has opened a great restaurant with menus signed by @chef_castrosilvamiguel and chef @jose_miguel_guedes 👨‍🍳👨‍🍳. We had an absolute fantastic dinner at this small restaurant. 8 delicious courses to share followed by very nice dessert all perfectly paired with still wines from the Douro Diamond @quintadeventozelo and port from @dalvawines 👌👌Both food and wine were extremely tasteful 👍👍 Very welcoming staff - great service and nice atmosphere 👍 Absolutely recommendable restaurant 👍.

The perfect end to our week in Lisbon and Porto. Casario is in the Hotel Gran Cruz on Porto's Ribeiro. We were lucky enough to have a seat overlooking the river. The service was excellent with knowledgeable friendly staff and the tasting menu and wine pairing were both delicious and great value.

Emailing in advance the restaurant did their best to accommodate us despite being heavily booked. We accepted a later table and despite being the last in the restaurant the staff left perfect pauses between courses and we felt in no way rushed. The service was friendly and attentive and our waiter offered sound advice on portions and wine. The food was delicious and the whole experience offered excellent value for money. Particularly enjoyed the chickpea stew and the fish with clam rice. Plus the view!

We had a superb lunch overlooking the Douro waterfront. The tastiest food so far on our trip. On our friendly waiter's recommendation we shared three plates. The first was a typical but delicious and ample cheese and sausage platter. We thought the second—a saffrony risotto with sea bass—would be the standout, because it was excellent and we cleaned the plate. But the third was even better: a chickpea stew with nutty mushrooms. Casario is in the Gran Cruz House so the wine list is heavy on Cruz wines—the glass suggested by the waiter was a perfect match. This is not a large restaurant, so book early. Definitely one not to miss.

Lovely little find. Visited Porto for a few days and enjoyed a lovely meal here. Nice 5 course tasting menu and perfectly lovely for the price. It’s not the gastronomic tasting menu you would expect from anywhere with any accolade but it’s perfectly lovely and food is good and great value Service is great and you are well looked after by the main host As with everywhere in Porto it’s cozy but just adds to the atmosphere. Great views as you are right on the river and even entertained by the live street music from below
