About
"Portugues de Gema" is a restaurant based on a social economy project that promotes social reintegration of homeless and people at risk of social exclusion, "Giving Meaning to Life" project. The project provides a degree and trains people in a very vulnerable situation with professional, social and personal skills and reintegrates them into the labor market in the hotel and restaurant industry. Having started in 2006 and until June 2014, the project certified academic and professionally 108 people, 50% of whom have integrated the labor market. The project has a catering service and restaurant of high prestige, whose profits are used to support our trainees in their reintegration.

We purposely travelled to this restaurant (out of our way too!) to try this restaurant and it was never open as advertised which was absolutely infuriating! We originally went off their online times, closed. Then tried twice on their advertised on the board outside, again...More

A very mediocre meal. From the reviews, we expected more. We ordered the cod and boar stew and were unimpressed in comparison to the other meals at similarly rated restaurants in Porto. The menu was very limited for vegetarians.

A hidden gem. This restaurant is down a quite backstreet. Well worth finding. The food was lovely and the service was friendly and attentive. Not that great for vegetarians but a couple of options Wine was great. All from the local Douro valley 2 courses...More
