We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance in 2010 and ate two fantastic meals there. I even bought their cookbook and it's great! We went back to Athens for a weekend this year and just had to go back. We were not let down: food was fantastic, so authentic and delicious. Atmosphere was beautiful and we even had live music... It's hidden at the end of the flea market of Monastiraki in Athens. It's worth looking and asking for it, because it's one of the best middle to upmarket restaurants in the area. On three floors , plus you can sit on the roof overlooking the acropolis and old Athens. Food selection is superb and from different places of Greece.... More

The owner of the house we rented on Santorini recommended this café while we were passing through Athens. We had a fantastic meal. The food is simple and very fresh but what stands out particularly is the selection of local and regional dishes combining flavours and spices that reflect the cultural crossroads of Greece. We had a wonderful beetroot salad... More

Randomly found this cafe that turns street bar walking home after a night out. Only cash but amazing music and fun party in the street on weekend nights.

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
