While staying at our hotel on Ippokratous Street, we decided to explore the neighborhood, which is a lively shopping district. We popped into Gregory’s, a very successful Greek coffee shop chain similar to Starbucks for an ice coffee. My wife tried to order what looked like an ice blended vanilla coffee topped with whipped cream, which was depicted on a... More

I enjoyed a chicken wrap here on a recent visit to Athens, and I was staying at a hotel nearby. Reasonably priced and quick fast food. Reasonable.

Interesting how Greek make their coffees! Not bad and quite enjoy the atmosphere among local Greek. Good, simple snacks.

Gregory's appears to be the Greek Starbuck's as they are everywhere. I frequented the one in Pikermi since it was at the corner of where I was staying. This was my go to snack shop as I struggled with finding Greek food that I liked when I first arrived (I don't like lamb). The pastries are divine! The spinach &... More

Gregorys Coffee has branches all over Greece and is much cheaper than Starbucks. Most Greeks drink Freddo espresso, Freddo Cappuccino or Frappe. All cold coffee drinks. We tried their Freddo Crema in Naxos which was excellent. Basically espresso on ice with fresh whipped cream with cinnamon and chocolate powder. Highly recommended!

Visited Syndagma Coffee Right yesterday and the coffee I was served was of such poor quality (bitter, cheap tasting and unpleasant) that I was unable to drink it. I gave it back to the assistant - she added some milk but it really didn't help! Could just be a one off as I haven't been before. Or are they cutting... More

Having my coffee / sandwich prepared under a counter full of ashes by smokers is not pleasant and definitely not healthy. There are laws prohibiting this for a reason, but many stores of this international chain seem to ignore them. There are locations that follow the health regulations and others that ignore them.Complaints to the management result from apologetic responses to... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
