This used to be my first GO-TO restaurant in Athens and this last week I couldnt have been more disappointed. The fava was tasteless. The stuffed octopus was so tuff I could barely cut it. The service was mediocre at best. Sad day to fall out of love with an old favorite.

Both the food and service were great at Psaras! We took a mix of appetizers, I loved the grilled feta & the haloumi. The mains were also good and the deserts were excellent. I highly recommend the place.

Lovely friendly service My friend and I came to this restaurant for lunch. Amazing view and a lovely walk to the place, she's Greek so she knew of the place it's tricky to find in my opinion but I'm a tourist. We ordered spicer cheese dip, super yummy a must to try and ask if they can toast the bread... More

We were there on our first night in Athens and didn't know anything too much about area then found this restaurant by chance. I think we met with owner first, old guy and looks angry :) he told us sit where we want so we sat at outside. They tried to turn on the heater for 5 minutes, i belive... More

First of all, they charge you for water and stale bread you don't ask for. Secondly, waiters and waitresses are unpleasant! There were two girls who wanted to get some coffee but a waitress told them that it was impossible because this is a restaurant and not a café. There were many tables available but still, they were not allowed... More

It was recommended by Greek friend. Was a little bit confusing to find it because we got English name of it (Fisherman’s tavern) and at the restaurant it is just name in Greek. Big restaurant on tree levels with great view and nice atmosphere. Traditional good quality Greek food: moussaka, kebab and other traditional dishes. Lamb in parchment paper was... More

My wife and I found this place although it's off the beaten track. Their specialty is fish. I believe the name even means Old Fishermans Tavern. We had sagonaki and eggplant rolls as an appetizer. For the main course, I had the Grouper house dish with spinach in wine sauce. My wife had Eggplant au gratin with shrimp, and Grouper.... More

We followed a recommendation from our hotel receptionist who told us about this place. We went there for dinner on a Friday evening. The place is huge. 3 houses full of rooms. Tables on the side walk, stairs, even on the roof. We sat outside in front of the house closer to the Acropolis. We ordered a few appetizers which... More

We had our first meal in Athens at this taverna. We were greeted warmly by the host. The decor is rustic yet comfortable. We didn't feel too adventurous so kept to the basics: some mezze for an entrée, fried sardines, lamb in parchment paper, moussaka for the main course. The food was simple and well presented. We had a good... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
