I've been going to il Postino for many many years. The owner has changed, the waiters have changed, the chef has changed since my first visit. I always go back and I always enjoy their hospitality and the very good food. It is somewhat expensive, taking into account the economic situation in Greece, but it always feels like home. Cosy,... We ate at Il Postino on our visit to Athens about 6 weeks ago. We weren't planning on eating Italian but were tempted by the Trattoria's surroundings. It is up a little side street and is absolutely delightful. Can't recall exactly what we ate (it was the beginning of a 6 week trip to Europe and we dined out every... More

Postino has been around for at least ten years, just off Skoufa Street in the Kolonaki area of central Athens. It is a pleasant and welcoming space, divided into an upper dining room (non-smoking) and a lower dining room for smokers. There is a tray of apetizers which is brought to the table; the salads are exceptional. The menu has... More

Very beautiful place, friendly staff but very expensive. Our pasta was tasty but nothing special. First plate was cold and tasteless.

I visited il Postino on an sunny afternoon. My gnocchi with spinach sauce and fresh ricotta, a bit heavy but tasty, the bread was excellent, my pannnacotta with lime syrup dull, almost tasteless. The service was very good, my glass of white wine came not chilled enough (a very common problem), all those rather overpriced (23 euros in total). Although... More

Nice place with friendly staff! We enjoyed our pasta with "vino de casa'. A little bit expensive with no special reason! Clean & Cozy!

Thιs restaurant is consistent. The pasta we tried was satisfactory up to very good. The salad was also quite good. But the thing is that ok, you couldn’t say that something was excellent. Also the wine was not that good, as it should for its price. The exterior, was very nice and quiet (Friday afternoon), it is certainly a beautiful... More

Staying in Exarchia

Neighbourhood Profile
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
