For me. eating there and have this great view of Acropolis is a treat. Kyoto is the oldest Japanese restaurant in Athens. We actually ordered the entire shushi menu and i had the best salmon sashimi ever. It wasn;t the first time i visited Kyoto, i try to go every summer and the taste is still excellent and the sushi... Owner/Chef took us for a ride saying he was would bring sushi and then stinging us with an $83 euro bill for 2 people. Nice view, average place: so many better options half the price twice as clean

Athens is famous for many other things than sushi, but Kyoto definitely changes that and offers a Japanese culinary experience with an extraordinary view! The roof garden is without a doubt a great advantage and the idea of enjoying sushi under the Attica sky, viewing the Acropolis is really enticing. But in the end, everything comes down to food. That... More

They only served at the roof garden, which was a bit weird considering that there was several floors in the building and there was tables and chairs at the first floor at least. I was told to take the elevator to the roof, and the elevator was really old and small and a bit scary to be honest. The roof... More

We first visited this restaurant on a Thursday evening. We went there at 19:30 since the site informed us that the restaurant opens at 19:00. Unfortunately it was closed and the waiter asked us to come back in half an hour. We did! We took an old elevator to the roof of an old building. The view was breathtaking you... More

We went here after deciding that a bit of sushi would make a nice change from lamb and saganaki and all in all it was pretty decent. The sashimi was fresh and the rolls tasty. A touch too much salt on the edamame but that's probably more personal taste than anything. The actual restaurant is a bit odd. It's on... More

A true japanese sushi restaurant in Athens, not commercial at all, in a very nice family atmosphere, located at the Akropolis. The view from the roof garden is breath taking. The food was very nice, a very small menu but high quality and very well priced. Very friendly service. I recommend that you visit this place if you want to... More

Myself and my husband have just finished another wonderful meal in a beautiful setting; under the ambient glow of the Parthenon here in Athens, Greece. I am referring to KYOTO restaurant. As customers of the neighbouring restaurant leaned and bent over the railing of KYOTO to try get pictures we took in the almost 180 degree view of Athens as... More

We hadn't previously eaten Japanese food or tried Saki rice wine but booked a table because of the view and the friendly reception by the staff when we dropped in for a look. We were saved a perfect table for two where we both had good views of the Acropolis. The Sake rice wine was delicious. We ate seaweed salad,... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
