We enjoyed two wonderful evenings eating at Alana. The ambience is perfect eating outside on a terrace with unobtrusive music. The service was welcoming and helpful and the food on both occasions excellent - be prepared for large portions especially the starters which I think...More

We went to this restaurant after a number of recommendations. We had sea bass and it was very good. However, the atmosphere of the restaurant is lacking. Instead of a single attentive waiters we were served in one way or another by 7 separate wait...More

The setting is a beautiful courtyard under a huge tree. It is very stylish without being fussy. The food is excellent and a little bit different. We ate tempura prawns with black taramasolata, then a slow braised lamb shank and grilled squid. The wine waiter...More

Not as tasty or interesting as we’d hoped. Tuna was too meaty for us and vegetables too soft and a bit cold.

Great location in middle of the old town. Good food, good service. A bit pricy but it’s offering a great atmosphere. Recommend it for family with kids.

An absolutely beautiful patio at night. They did a great job with the decor. It's warm and modern. The service was fantastic. Our waiter, who may have been the owner, made good recommendations and we had a great bottle of wine. We probably sat there...More

Description
Alana Fresh food straight from the market. Specializing in grilled meat and Cretan cuisineThe restaurant's name derives from the old times. Alana was a place that kids of all the neighbourhood used to join together and play. It was first established in 1986 at the heart of the old town of Rethymno in Salaminos street , the central street under the castle of Fortezza and used to be one of the first tavernas in the area. With 200 seats it was the most crowdy place of the old town. In 2002 under new management, the place transformed to a more relaxing restaurant with 100 seats based on good quality products, attendive service and reasonable prices. Alana made a new beginning, changing totally the style of the restaurant, serving unique dishes of traditional fare in a relaxing setting full of flowers creating the perfect backdrop for a dining experience highlighted by inspired cuisine and impeccable service. The restaurant has attracted both tourists and local people drawn to the superb food, charm and hospitality of its owners. The restaurant serves healthy Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, using products sourced locally, cooked with care and it has been established as one of the best restaurants in town, based on the customers’ reviews. The extensive a la carte menu includes favourites like lamb with artichokes, Cretan smoked pork “apaki” and stuffed vine leaves, chargrilled steaks and beef burgers, grilled vegetables with feta cheese and oregano, wild greens with tomato, garlic and potatoes. Unique home made deserts are also offered.
