Very good place for eating tasty cakes and drinking good tea in the Old Town. Nice atmosphere. Not cheap.

A beautiful cafe located in Old Town. We had the hot chocolate and an apple pastry. It was so decadent. The hot chocolate with whipped cream was so velvety. The apple pastry was delicious.

Several years ago, a Swedish friend told us that this place had the best hot chocolate in Stockholm. That may be true; I haven't done extensive research. While they advertise baked potatoes and lasagna, I suspect that most of their customers come for coffee, tea, or the hot chocolate and a pastry or tart of some kind. We enjoyed the... More

A nice cafe in the old town, serving lunch as well as cake. We had cake and tea, both of very good quality, however the price was quite high. But the nice atmosphere was worth the stay. Helpful & friendly staff.

I would say this place is good for grandmas and grandsons and granddaughters, who want to spent an hour or two together. I guess, it is also good for a girl company. It is a sweet shop, where for 40 krona you get a cup and you can refill it. The place was packed and were coming in all the... More

This bakery takes you back in time, the coffe and service is average, the location is nice. A little on the expensive side though

We went to "Sundbergs Konditori" to taste Prinsesstårta, a swedish cake. We've chosen "Sundbergs Konditori" for these reasons : - they sell Prinsesstårta, - this is the oldest bakery in Stockholm, - the decor is wonderful, - it is located in Gamla Stan. We tasted the cake (45SEK/pc) and we drank a tea (45SEK). While queuing, I was a bit... More

Stopped here for lunch while wandering around Gamla Stan. The interior design is unusual for Stockholm - very much like one of the grand 19th century cafes you'd find in Paris, Rome or Venice, although it is actually quite small. The food was very nice (we had a variety of sandwiches and salads). Not cheap, but that's hardly a surprise... More

We enjoyed a latte and apple strudel on the outside seating area overlooking a nice little square in Gamla Stan. While not cheap (though nothing is in Stockholm), it was a very enjoyable way to have an excellent strudel and do a bit of people watching.

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
