Located outside Slussen metro stop, Nystekt Stromming is a food van that has supposedly been there for decades! Serving fried white fish in many different formats at very cheap prices, their white-fish Herring burger was one of the cheapest (55sek or $9 aud) and fastest foods I had on my Swedish trip. Simply delicious!

I've come here with old and new friends alike. It's been a hit for all of us. Just make sure you don't go there before a date or before an event where people may smell your potentially bad breath from the onion and fish. Nonetheless, I love this place and can't wait to go back!

Let's get one thing straight: this is a glorified street cart with prices and quality of a street food. Delicious tender and fresh fried fish served with a variety of garnishes. Enjoy!

For kr75, I got the fried herring plate wth mashed potato, slaw, pickled cucumber and red onion. It made a wonderful and inexpensive dinner. The Slussen area is a big mess right now with all the construction going on (and will be for a very long time -they found artifacts while digging) but the Strommingsvagnen is still where Google Map... I tried the fish with mashed potates, cucumber and onions. It was really tasty and the food was so fresh. The prices are really affordable compared to Stockholm's food prices. Go grab a bite there. You won't regret it!

Ok so let's be honest. It's not posh, it's a bit greasy but it is cheap by Stockholm standards. I'm also not a fan of herring usually, I find it greasy and super fishy tasting. Having said that, I loved this. Firstly given that it was the cheapest meal I ate in Stockholm I was already a bit of a... More

Herring served in many different ways, including burgers and sandwiches. Delicious, quick, very Swedish and not too expensive. Great place for lunch during a visit to Södermalm.

I'm assuming most come here for the herring burger. Is it bad? No no, not at all. But is it amazing? I wouldn't say so. Don't have much to compare it to, as I normally eat my herring pickled. I will say I wished I could add more to the burger. If I were them, I would start thinking of... More

Admittedly that's a low bar - it's also the only fried herring sandwich I've ever had, but it was excellent, from the bun to the onion to the sauce to the fish. My only complaint is that the piece of herring could have been a bit larger. They have other various burgers and herring platters available. Love the dive-y location... More

Simple and tasty food with various types of bread. We had fried herring with mashed potatoes rolled up in a flat bread and same on a plate with addition of cucumber, hard dark bread (knackebrod) and coleslaw. Both meals were tasty and surprisingly filling for a simple snack.

Staying in Slussen

Neighbourhood Profile
A unique mix of grotesque 1960s concrete urban vision and cosy historical Swedish brick houses, Slussen has become one of Stockholm’s most architecturally edgy and controversial neighborhoods. Plans to rebuild the area have been on the agenda for decades, however, so far no agreement could be reached, which is the reason for the continuing decay of its brutalist substance. Nevertheless, the museums and the main shopping street, Götgatan, attract both locals and tourists with Sweden’s most fashion-forward clothing retailers, hipster coffee shops and restaurants. Once the lights are out, the area turns into a bustling nightlife haven, catering to all preferences, from posh hotel bars to sweaty underground nightclubs. There is no better place to experience the clash between old and new Sweden.
