A Swedish friend recommended this place so we arrived in a very positive mood. We had dinner, the food was ok, we had fish casserole and meatballs as mains. Didn’t stay for dessert or coffee as by that stage we’d had enough of the condescending...More

Wife and I visited while on a visit to Stockholm. They start first with a bread basket containing delicious dark brown bread; you could make a meal on it. They are famous for their meatballs. I had the "Classical Swedish Cooking" three course with herring...More

My husband and I with friends enjoyed a lovely dinner at this cozy, old world restaurant. First off, the waiter, Richard, regaled us with some of the history of the restaurant including the fact that it is the oldest restaurant (same name in same locale)...More

We had an excellent dinner with local items in a remarkable location. Since their remodeling a couple of years ago though, I think they have toned down the overall level of the restaurant. Used to be higher-end, now relatively mid-level service and environment.

Location, interior, food, stuff, cutlery - everything was absolutely great. Soup on lobster was phenomenal.

Founded in 1722, Den Gyldene Freden (Golden Fleece) in Stockholm's Old Town serves fine cuisine in a rare atmosphere centuries old with excellent service. A great menu of meat and fish dishes. Try getting a table in lower basement.

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)

At Den Gyldene Freden we have served authentic Nordic home cooking since the opening in 1722. Famous cultural personalities, tourists and local regulars visit our historic facilities in Gamla Stan to enjoy the fine food and the genuine atmosphere - for everyday or special occasions. We, the people who work at Den Gyldene Freden are very proud of our heritage and passionate about refining classic courses into modern cooking. Our philosophy is based on the idea that one must make time to cook - and eat - fine food. We make room for international influences, but our base is the Nordic kitchen interpreted in our own personal manner, with great respect for flora and fauna.
