Overpriced, poor service and mediocre food. Portion sizes vary per plate, nothing identical or even remotely of the same consistent portion size. With off hand staff who think it funny to over charge customers too, after they are slow to serve at differing intervals to each at the table.All...very peculiar, with sooo many awards on display. How on earth did this place get Michelin 'badges'.....?!! they must have been blind when checking here,or maybe the badges are for sale,or something similar. The only reason I gave this 2 'stars' was that I ate the meagre portions as I was hungry, and nothing more. There are many much better restaurants and even bars much superior with higher standards, this I'm afraid does NOT meet the mark. Will not return or recommend.More
As always we had a fantastic meal and service. Family owned and staffed by family. They have special menu offers always exceptional value for money and high quality of food. Love this restaurant 🤗
A welcome stop on the way in or the way out of the market. 32 degrees and it late September. Perhaps a cold drink may have been a better choice. Coffee very nice all the same. Great place to sit and people watch.
Ate here with some English friends who live in Spain. The gazpacho was excellent and the fish delicious (something Pedro). We were looked after by a man who we assumed was the owner and although he did not speak English, nothing was too much trouble....Can recommend and I need to discover the name of the fish dish!More
After reading the TA reviews we were excited about our visit When I rang for a reservation I asked for 9pm and was told only 8.30 was available which was fine , we arrived to an empty restaurant and after a 5 min walk around...we found someone to seat us - we were in fact the only dinners that evening ? We were really looking forward to their signature dish of Lobster with rice but we were told you have to phone and order in advance for rice dishes ??? ( never said that in reviews or on their web site) Anyway our first choices for starters were not available but the fried octopus I had was good The mains were a bit hit and miss because we really wanted fish as the lobster and rice was off . My wife chose the last portion of Turbot and that only left Tuna , nothing else available unless we wanted Monk fish but we both had to have it ? In the end I had a Sirloin Steak which was ok ish So generally not great £80 euros later and feeling the reviews were misleading , perhaps we went on a bad night ? I think we will spend our euros somewhere else in futureMore
A large group from our community descended on playa azul at 2pm on Saturday at 6pm we emerged extremely well fed and watered - some more "watered" than others but all very satisfied with an excellent seven corse spread and great wines all for a...very reasonable price - recommended ? Yes- very highly 😃More
A very pleasant surprise to find such a restaurant in this small village. Beautiful decoration, spacious, very pleasant ,cosy, and one feels that it is a family business well taken care of , spic-and-span, friendly. Most important the food is superb. Fish and rices are...really first class. Had their famous "arroz con bogavante" (Spanish rice with lobster) and it is succulent. Had some of the best fishes one can have that I have had for a very long time on the coast . Went once and and have already gone back 4 times in the last 5 weeks ordering a la carte. Fantastic. Understand that Playa Azul has a daily menu at a very very reasonable price .More
We had menu del dia on both occasions which we found excellent. On our second visit we took friends who also enjoyed it and the owner greeted us like long lost friends and treated us accordingly. Two of us had cod and I rate it...the best I have ever had. We shall certainly return and look forward to it.More
Playa Azul is a family owned and run restaurant in the centre of Villaricos. They have menu Del Dias at lunch time which are always excellent. For evening meals their fish dishes are wonderful, the lobster rice is a definite must to have, excellent.
We have known the restaurant and the family for many years as locals and more recently as returning holidaymakers to this lovely village we once called home. The food and service is consistently of a high standard and as well as being a renowned fish...restaurant, some of the family themselves being fisherman, they also serve the most delicious steaks. We do feel that the restaurant may not enjoy the patronage of non Spanish speaking locals or tourists because of its impressive layout and frontage but we would recommend everyone to give it a try either for an evening meal or an excellent menu del dia. Great value - a lovely dining experience.More
Once again we visited Villaricos and dined at La Playa Azul – it was so good we ate there every night. The restaurant is comfortable, the staff are welcoming and the food is absolutely superb. We had turbot and John Dory such as we have...never tasted, beautifully cooked and full of flavour. Thank you to Lazurus for his recommendation! We will certainly be eating at La Playa Azul next time we go to Villaricos! More
They produce themselves olive oil (used also for fried entries) and have theyr own fishboat. A must try rape (anglerfish) fried or grilled and gallo pedro (john dory). Owner (Mr. Lazaro) can suggest you best choices of the day. They also prepare (booking required) traditional...recipes..try them. One of the best fish restaurants I've tried, and for sure the very best in the area. Med-avg pricesMore
we went to this restaurant in the expectation of a great meal. the price for the menu del dia was good the service prompt and the ambience convivial. the starters came out one of us had " arroz a la cubana" and three of us...had Salmorejo both were excellent well prepared and presented the tomato sauce on the arroz was exquisite HOWEVER the mains were every bit as bad as the starters were good. I had whole small calamares (not chipirrones which are served ungutted) a la plancha which had not been gutted even the cartilage was left in. and the pork chops were tough and tasteless. needless to say we didn't go back again.More
We had a very good meal here and I can't really add to the positive reviews already provided by other people. I'd strongly recommend this restaurant.
