Stopped here for lunch. Very friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere. We had the goose salad and the soup of the day, both very delicious!

We had Ostabudin on our list of places to try and visit in Reykjavik one evening but on a stroll round this great city, we came across the restaurant at exactly the right time for lunch. What a lovely relaxed atmosphere, what a great welcome...More

Ostabudin offer a short concise lunch menu which I personally prefer. Better to do less dishes well than more dishes badly I say. One of our tour guides had actually recommend the fish soup if we needed something quick and warming which is why we...More

We booked this restaurant online a few weeks before arriving, however when we arrived it was quiet anyway but worthwhile, just in case. I had the Arctic char which was absolutely beautiful cooked and with lots of flavour. I had a dessert which unfortunately I...More

Stopped for lunch, only a few items for lunch. Nothing my non fish/meat eating daughter could order. She ordered the fish soup which she didn’t eat, but we did. Very interesting flavor, a little sour but good. Ling fish very good though!

Wonderful dinner at this place! The minke whale steak appetizer was particularly special. Lamb was very good as well. Great casual cozy atmosphere.

Hands down the best meal we had. There were three in our group including a teenager. We ordered lamb fillet, whale steak and Arctic char - all perfectly prepared. An expensive meal by US standards but mid-level by Reykjavík. That said, it was worth the...More

We were only given the limited lunch menu when we arrived during lunch time. I believe there might have been 4 things on the menu including two soups and the fish of the day.

Description
Food connoisseurs and other gastronomes have ever since the year 2000 slipped into our basement during lunch hour to feast on various delicacies. But of course everyone knows that because ever since the restaurant opened for business it has been the least kept secret in the area. Ostabuðin has truly been an oasis on Skolavorðustigur because we have tried our best to offer a wide varaity of fresh and curious products which have tickled our patrons taste buds and in turn trickled salivating reflexes in the city center. Even though we have taken some pride in the queue that has formed outside our entrance every single day during lunch break for the past 15 years we have finally expanded our premises. Thus we can now welcome our patrons from dawn til dusk and offer them a variety of fish and meat dishes which we have refined with passion. Of course there is also a lot of cheese on the menu and now we can also serve wine with our fare. Our daily specials always include both a fish dish and a soup during lunch hour on weekdays. Do not hesitate to ask what is on offer today. Also, our seafood soup never disappoints. Our guests might have to share tables during the lunch hour rush but who knows – maybe you will make new friends. Bon appetit, Joi.
