After walking up the mountain Esja, enjoying the great view in unbelievable weather, it was a real treat to have some lamb soup and a beer (or two) in Esjustofa restaurant when we came down. Great soup and the location is the same.

During part of our trip in Iceland we stayed in Hvalfjordur. It's a beautiful area with only one restaurant, Kaffi Kjos. We discovered Esjustofa during one of our trips returning from Reykjavik. The first time we came upon it, we drove up and looked inside. The place appeared to be abandoned. During another trip coming from Reykavik, we decided to... More

Just stopped to send an email briefly and saw this little place. It was lunchtime so we thought we would try it. Very friendly server, small but varied menu. It's known for its lamp soup, and locals were in there, I assume a good sign!!! I couldn't resist a carrot and ginger soup, excellent. Son had a pizza which was... More

Great location. Friendly staff. The traditional Icelandic meat soup was just like grandma used to make it! Very tasty and nostalgic experience.

After a long day touring we stopped here for something to eat around 6pm. Got a warm friendly welcome. Food on offer was home made soup, paninis and delicious cakes. There was the traditional lamb soup which was really tasty and carrot and ginger, again delicious. This came with lots of home made bread. The chocolate cake my son had... More

This little cafe at the bottom of Mount Esja has two very important things: good coffee and nice staff. They also offer free wifi access and the bathrooms are clean. What more could you want after a hike up and down a mountain?

Nice owners, good food, and very clean. We were cold and exhausted so it was great to eat a warm sandwich and get some coffee. A great way to end a venture onto the mountain!

On our way back into Reykjavik we really wanted to eat lunch before we got back into the city and we found Esjustofa. The owners were extremely friendly and delighted when two of us chose the lamb soup. He brought it out from the kitchen literally boiling in the saucepan and served it directly to our bowls at the table.... More
