If you want to try an atmospheric old cellar restaurant with traditional Austrian food, the Mekler Stiftskeller is the place to try. It is slightly off the tourist path but still attracts many. However, its quality can be noted by the number of Austrians who...More

The restaurant is near the city center. It is undergound and very nice inside. We have take some sausages but it wasnt the thing that we expect(may it is our fault). As a total experience was a good location.

A warm welcome, great staff, food is very meaty! Excellent schnitzel preceded by goose livers. Generous portions you won't leave hungry.

We had dinner at the Melker Stiftkeller. It is a typical Austrian Cellar restaurant. The atmosphere was good, the staff friendly but the food was cold and therefore the visit was a bit dissapointing.

The rustic flare is definitely nice but the keller has a serious humidity problem, one can tell by the smell, which is not appetizing at all. The food was average and there is a touristic vibe overall. There was a spider web under the table...More

I loved this restaurant! The building is centuries old and kept in mint condition. Great selection of typical Austrian dishes and beverages at a more than reasonable price. Great service too!

Four of us dined here on our last night in Vienna and were determined to try the pork knuckle. Well this restaurant didn’t disappoint. We ordered the serving for 3-4 people and we struggled to finish the meal. The pork was moist and fell off...More

In full jet-lag mode, after 30 hrs traveling, we were glad to find Melker Stiftskeller a half block from our lodging at Benediktushaus. Steep stairs down to the inviting vaulted spaces filled with locals enjoying dinner out. She had the Wiener schnitzel, which fully lived...More

Dear Hollyrik, Thank you very much for your great Review, we are happy that you enjoyed your visit and the ambiance. Regarding our goulash, the meat can be tricky, we prepare all our meats by ourselves and usually see to it, that all unnecessary parts...More

Description
The Melker Stiftskeller is part of the Melkerhof in Vienna's Schottengasse 3 in the first district. A certificate from 1629 proves that there was a wine-cellar connected with the Melkerhof already at that time. In addition it confirms the right of the Abbey of Melk to store and sell wine from the abbey's wineyards. The Melker Stiftskellers fine cuisine developed out of this wine-cellar. Today we concentrate on traditional and fresh food, our speciality of the house, the roasted pork knuckle, is served for almost 400 years now. The old cellar vault offers seating for 300 persons and therefor is perfect for larger groups, private partys and buisness events.
