This place was lovely, food spot on and service really friendly - but it just happened all too quickly. First course brought within a minute of ordering. I get the appeal, and the quick turn around - but slow it down a bit. Pork knuckle was to die for!

The food was very good, and the price was good, too. The place was just lovely. Unfortunately, when we were there, there were two tables of guests celebrating and a woman was so high and laughing so loud like crazy continuously. That was very annoying. Otherwise, everything was fine. I would love to eat at Melker Stiftskeller again when I'm... More

This was a really traditional Austrian Keller. Very atmospheric, friendly, with a hubbub of conversation. Good beer, massive meals, excellent value, polite and friendly staff who all spoke enough English to make ordering a meal in English straightforward. I feel a bit guilty about dropping a star for the wait. It was a very busy Friday, and the staff were... More

Just how typically Austrian the Stiftskeller is I don't know but was definitely a great find. The atmosphere was perfect for an entertaining evening. We hadn't booked and it was busy but we were found a table after a few minutes so felt quite fortunate. Our food was very good, the beer equally so; the staff were really friendly and... More

Wanted 🐷 knuckle and this place is famous for it. Ordered two of the large ones for the four of us, and wow, could have fed an army. The food was tasty, plenty some and a great choice of tradional Austrian grub (we also had veal Schnitzel). The place is larger than it looks, with a great atmosphere being in... More

Decided to choose here after reading the reviews below and so glad we listened. Lovely restaurant, courteous staff and the food was amazing...recommend the house special, pork knuckle, and the other half had Wiener schnitzel and loved it. Viennese food at its best.

We were walking close to the place when we noticed it and walked in. It may be a bit tricky to find as it is located in an ally next to the street. You walk downstairs and are greeted by a large hall that was definitely used as a cellar of some sort. We had the soured meet and goose... More

We came here after reading the reviews and because we wanted to experience something traditionally Austrian. We were not disappointed. The pork knuckle did not disappoint and had so much lovely meat on - although it looked smaller than one I had eaten in the Czech Republic whilst on business the previous week - this one was just full of... Description
The Melker Stiftskeller is part of the Melkerhof in Vienna's Schottengasse 3 in the first district. A certificate from 1629 proves that there was a wine-cellar connected with the Melkerhof already at that time. In addition it confirms the right of the Abbey of Melk to store and sell wine from the abbey's wineyards.
The Melker Stiftskellers fine cuisine developed out of this wine-cellar.
Today we concentrate on traditional and fresh food, our speciality of the house, the roasted pork knuckle, is served for almost 400 years now.

The old cellar vault offers seating for 300 persons and therefor is perfect for larger groups, private partys and buisness events.

Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
