This is charming family run institution of a restaurant, v good Austrian food with some continental additions, beautifully presented, very well served, it shines in summer with its delightful terrace and garden. If you want to get out of the tourist traps for a serene lunch or dinner (please no shirts or flip flops or back packs!) this is an... More

Back in the 70's I lived for a number of years in Vienna for business reasons. It's my second "heimat". The first year I was there I lived on upper Sieveringerstrasse at the start of the vineyards. I used to have dinner regularly at Eckel. It is an excellent family owned restaurant with a wonderful garden dining area in season.... More

Been going here for years. An absolute constant which delivers highest quality Viennese food with no fuss. Pfannkuchen Rothschild are my all time favourite. The restaurant is family run for generations and staff is very polite and impeccably trained. Love it.

We had a good dinner in Eckel. The restaurant is spacious , staffs are helpful and courteous and the food is good. The foods were also served in time. The only issue is that the restaurant is little far from the central location.

The "Eckel" is one of the real classic Restaurants with a wide range of Austrian dishes; best Quality for a fair price.

Away from the center near the Viennese woods, prompt, good service by an English conversant staff who offer fresh trout dishes as well as an ample variety of Austrian meat dishes. My veal and kidney with curried rice and my lobster soup were well prepared and reasonably priced.

Amazing place, located in one of the off tourist districts of Vienna. Good food, good service. very friendly and not pushy waiters. Try Zwiebelrostbraten (very tatsty beef with fried onions on top) or Zandrefilet (fish). Starters are also attractive, for example avocado with crevettes or salmon tartar. Good selection of wines too. Eckel has an open garden inside. Overall is... More

WE had dinner at Eckel on a warm July evening, and like most patrons we chose to sit outdoors in the pebbled courtyard. Service was just about perfect: Polite, well-informed and excellent timing. Most waiters appear to have worked there for many years. The food is very well prpeared, and the menu while not innovative, offers an excellent selection. I... More

If there was a superlative for “good traditional cooking”, it would be “best traditional cooking”, and this term is the perfect description of the food at Eckel, in Vienna’s Sievering neighborhood.

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s poshest green leafy suburb is also its most romantic hotspot. Walk up Grinzinger Strasse with its many historic wine taverns. The tops of nearby Nussberg and Reisenberg hills make for great strolls through the vineyards, and the occasional discovery of a hidden winery. Popular local weekend hangouts are Neustift am Walde with even more great wine taverns, and café restaurant Cobenzl, up on Cobenzl hill – fantastic for great vistas of Vienna. The woodland around Kahlenberg has a wonderful and not too strenuous hiking path - just don't forget the insect repellent. If you have adventurous children, take them to Waldseilpark Kahlenberg (forest rope park Kahlenberg). A must-do if you want a taste of the Vienna Woods is a stop at Josefinenhütte next door with its great food, cosy interiors and wonderful outdoor space.
