Such a nice cafe to relax and hang out with friends. Serves really good food, the majority is french. Most known for his "galettes" I'd say.

Quirky little cafe full of locals with few tourists. Really good buffet style breakfast. Delicious fresh cinnamon pancakes and waffles and good coffee. Well worth a visit.

Seated at the rear amongst only a few dining patrons we ordered breakfast and coffees. An honest mistake from the wait staff left our food orders forgotten resulting in a pretty hefty delay. Despite elapsed time, the very friendly waitress, coffees on the house, and delicious, hearty, and healthy brekky made well up for the belay. Good selection of continental... More

Excellent coffee and freshly cooked food. Try the ham and eggs for breakfast, beautifully prepared with great flavours. Add to that the friendly service and this comes highly recommended.

Excellent crêpe with salmon, nice (very strong!) cappuccino, very friendly service. It was quiet and very relaxing to have lunch at Cafe der Provinz. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is not very big, with a small terrace and a even smaller kitchen. There is not a great variety of things they offer, but everything they make is very tasty. They serve different galettes (filled pancakes) and they are delicious. The flour they use is wholewheat and they make it using their own small mill. On Saturdays and... More

Very nice place to sit with friends or alone to read a book. Time flies there. Friendly atmosphere, great coffee and smiling personnel. Great to spend there rainy afternoon or just stop by and give yourself a time to relax. ;)

Cool little cafe serving tasty, simple meals. Good value and the staff will help you translate the German menu. By warned, locals will grab the tables outside and stay for hours so be quick if one comes free.

After trying out all the Creperies in Vienna I can tell that this restaurant is the most authentic one. The galettes are really made of buckwheat flour. The different fillings make it even more delicious. The price at lunchtime is very cheap. The only thing that bothered me was the long waiting time. As I often made galettes on my... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
