The "Mohr im Hemd" is an absolute delight!!! Warm chocolate cake with ice cream, delicious! The café is decorated as it was in the early 20th century. A must visit!

It's an establishment worth visiting just to say you have been there and taken a few photo's however don't expect intimate dining or serenity. It's similar to dining in an army mess hall with lots of noise and movement and an expectation to get in and get out as fast as possible. The food and service is good and the... More

Push surroundings and good service. Be prepared to queue for a short while. Very good service, nice food and good cake! Turkish coffee very strong and try the 'dunkel' (dark) beer. Great experience.

Oh my word! One of the best coffee places I've ever been! A bit expensive but an experience to have at least once! The pastries, the service and the coffee were great! Plus is not everyday you can enjoy a coffee with someone playing piano on live for you!

We had lunch at café Central, it is a very chique and atmosferic setting, but affordable, only rather turistic

Beautiful old building with architecture dating back hundreds of years. Complete array of breakfast, deserts & beverages. Reasonably priced starters could fill for a full breakfast.

Read so much about this place and though we had to wait a good half hour to get a table it was worth it just for its setting and ambience. Sadly, though the food was good, it wasn't excellent. The Scnitzel had less salt and the soup and salad could have been better. The apple strudel also fell short of being... More

We saw pictures of the cafe before we ever realized the history of the building, and we decided it was a must-go no matter what. There was a line getting in, but I think we were in line no more than 20 minutes. The inside is as gorgeous as the pictures. We had lunch along with coffee and cakes. The... More

Description
This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience. Daily Live Piano Music from 5pm on! Reservations are strongly recommended to avoid waiting time - upon availability. Many thanks in advance for your understanding!

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
