had to queue a little but not too long-fab cakes & coffee in this lovely cafe. Definitely worth finding and paying a visit to. Didn't stay very long-so more tourists could get their opportunity too!

On arrival we were confronted with a small queue to this iconic coffee shop. However a about 15 minutes we were in and seated. Decor is well preserved with vaulted ceilings, it felt authentic. It was extremely busy, but this did not detract from the service. We 2 Viennese style coffees and the Sacher torte, which was tasty and not... More

We found this restaurant by chance while wandering in Vienna's historic centre. The decor is fantastic, it almost feels like dining in an art decor church. It got very busy, with a long queue at the door when we left. The service was attentive if a little slow. We had two soups - one potato and bacon and the other... More

Cafe Central looks like normal cafe in a city where coffee culture is a national heritage. But it has played host to many intellectuals over the years in the same light as some Parisien cafes play hosts to artists and playwrights. The cafe is located in Palais Ferstel and in its past life, was a popular meeting spot among the... More

We were greated and seated at a table with a view to the grand piano. The guests were arriving in ball room gowns and tuxidos. The cakes tasted fresh and delicious, the Wiener Melange was hot and tasty.

It's a popular touristy destination - (and there are often queues) but it's well worth one visit anyhow. The gracious old world style, the pianist, the atmosphere - never mind the cakes coffee and Strudel. It just makes you feel good!

We came across this restaurant by accident because it was close to the hotel we were staying at and we were hungry after just arriving. The dessert options are endless and delicious. Definitely stop here for coffee and dessert.

After waiting in line for a while to get a table, we waited for a long time to order some desserts and hot chocolate only to have our waiter forget to place our order. We ended up sitting there for a long time, watching other tables get their orders or similarly get ignored. When we reminded the waiter of our... More

Many thanks for sharing your opinion on Tripadvisor! Thank you for getting back to us with your experience in our coffeehouse! Although the coffeehouse is highly frequented the service quality should never be affected! We really feel sorry for this experience! We also feel sorry that you didn't like our applestrudel. Each strudel is hand-made every single day with great... More

This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience. Daily Live Piano Music from 5pm on! Reservations are strongly recommended to avoid waiting time - upon availability. Many thanks in advance for your understanding!

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
