5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed yesterday NEW

We were lucky to have a very helpful waiter who translated the menu for us, with a very good sense of humour. My goulash was very tender and tasty, and my husband had the Austrian equivalent of boiled beef and carrots. Also again very well cooked. Sadly no room for desert, but excellent coffe and tea.

We stopped off for dinner whilst doing our tour of Vienna and luckily didn't have to wait too long in the queue before we were shown to our table. Table couldn't have been better, we were seated on the edge of the restaurant on a corner banquette, so had a good view of the whole dining room. The pianist was... More

This is one of the most beautiful dining rooms I've been in, regardless of "café" or a more formal location. Came from breakfast on Sunday morning and enjoyed a traditional Viennese with croissant, a Kaiser roll, soft boiled egg, butter, jam (ask for the Amarena Cherry flavor), and coffee. NIbbled on a friend's Sacher Torte - tasty but would rather... More

An amazing cafe to enjoy breakfast, lunch or just a drink. Polite, attentive service and affordable options. Great place to relax in the heart of Vienna.

Slight queue to get in, but efficiently managed. Once inside a vast array of luxury desserts on display. Excellent soups from the snacks menu and good beers. Beer was served accidentally slightly warm and instantly replaced without having to ask.

Stopped her for dinner after a day of sight-seeing, and dropped by for dessert another night. Great atmosphere - the piano is a nice touch. Food was standard Wien fare, nothing to write home about, but not disappointing. Nice selection of desserts, but the decor and ambience made the place!! Recommended to unwind after a long day out!

Beautiful location but the coffee was a bit weak. Service was excellent and breakfast items were delicious.

More than a cafe. A landmark. The marble columns are impressive. Desserts are tremendous. A menu is also available for seated lunch or dinner. An artistic cafe where you could sit for hours. Coffee is of course perfect.

Description
This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience. Daily Live Piano Music from 5pm on! Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
