Recommended by a local friend we enjoyed a nice dinner in this out of the ordinary place. It is friendly, generous, characterful and has a menu that is traditionally tasty.

If you want to get out of the tourist area, take the U2 to Taborstrasse, have a stroll through the Augarten and visit this lovely restaurant. It caters for dinner from 5pm onwards, but is also open for lunch on weekends. We just met friends for a drink there and I wanted a snack. I had the goose-liver served on... More

I went here with a couple of friends and really enjoyed the non-pretentious atmosphere, good vibes and wholesome Austrian cuisine. From the outside the place looks as if it is closed. But as you open the door you enter into a very colorful and authentic atmosphere. The soups had a deep flavor and not overly salty as in a lot... More

I only discovered this popular restaurant in the final days of a nearly two-year stay in Vienna, thanks to some Austrian friends who invited us here for one last good time. Better late than never, and I'm glad we didn't miss it. Our friendly little group stayed for hours, enjoying the lively atmosphere with nary a tourist in sight and... More

What a great place to try out Bavarian food. Ably assisted through the menu by main host and hostess four of us had a fabulous meal. I enjoyed the cabbage, sausage and potato soup followed by a plate of smoked sausages with ginger, horse radish, pickles and three mustards with dark bread. I was advised thus was a "light" main!... I was there with my family on a few occasions. Food is always good. A clear winner is one of their desserts namely Mozart Dumplings. One of the best desserts I had. The restaurant itself is a bit outdated but somehow they have managed to create a very nice cosy atmosphere. Staff was quite friendly too. Decently priced. I will... More

We were staying in an Airbnb five minutes walk from Am Nordpol, so we dropped in one evening (without a booking). Luckily, we got the very last table in this fun, relaxed busy, local place. We were definitely the only tourists there but we felt very welcome. The food selection and quality were pretty good but not mind-blowing (my ravioli... More

Simple food, quite slow service, otherwise good schnitzels and this kind of cuisine. Good value. Some fun artworks on the walls :)

If you want to sample Hungarian style food in an informal, fun setting this is the place. Goulash, dumplings, gnocchi, tomato sauces, salads, sausages are the menu here and all are very tasty. The quirky paintings and decorations, along with local wine and beer, and the friendly crowd, add to the enjoyment. Easy to walk to from the centre of... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
