This wine bar/restaurant is mostly specialized in Italian food and wine, offering a good choice in terms of red and white wines. Dishes were very well cooked (pasta was al dente and the soup jota was tasty and rich in flavour) and the prices reasonable. Maybe, just the price of the wine was a bit expensive. reservation recommended, since the... More

Excellent wine and cheese, great atmosphere and service. The perfect cure for a cold night in Vienna is a glass of local white wine and a plate of Italian cheeses.

The restaurant is nice and essential. The service is informal and speedy. The Italians meals are tasty and based on quality ingredients. However the price is expansive related to the portions and the choises on menu are poor. Is good italian flavour in Vienna. Must try!

The Spezerei only has approx 20 seats and a limited menu card but the meals a all well prepared. Eg the plate with cold cuts and cheese where all is in good quality. What really makes Spezerei to stand out is the Wine and the service. They have their own blend and also local single wineyard wine from Stift Kloster... More

If you're looking for the true Viennese charm and friendly atmosphere in an inviting yet low key setting, look no further. Spezerei offers an exquisite selection of wines and spirits hand selected by the very knowledgeable owner Wolfgang and his co-workers. The menu is kept straight forward and will cater to the connoisseurs palate. Stroll from downtown Vienna across the... More

The charming owner is sort of a grown up food & beverages nerd - always up for a bit of proscuttio crudo (or whatever the italian term for crude humor is). If you let him he'll tell you the whole story of your meal starting with that lovely family of pigs. You probably don't want that. Anyways, being a long... More

Good dining experience, no frills, decent food, nice wine. The menu is rather limited and perhaps you can find better dining options around, but the atmosphere makes up for it. Cash only.

As we strolled up to check out the menu, the owner was already outside enjoying the nice Vienna weather and greeted us with friendly assistance straight away. He talked us through the menu, sat us down at a nice alfresco table and served us right away. The food here was as tasty as it gets and the overall atmosphere is... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
