We came across this nice bäckerei and kaffeehaus in Vienna, in the very city centre. Going inside it felt like entering another time: historic forniture, perfectly packed sweets, tasty cakes in the exposistion, also windows to take a look inside the laboratory, where a few pastry chefs were creating cakes, sweets and decorations. We had a really great time, an... More

This lovely coffeehouse which is very famous as it once provided pastries/cakes to the Palace is a must visit place on most tourist's plans. The coffeehouse is very very busy, try to visit outside the typical hours, we went around 4pm and found the queue was short (inside only). Now I have to admit I would say the service was... More

Stopped to warm up with hot chocolate. Had a short waiting period around 4pm..lucky as I believe the lines can get quite long. Sat right next to the glass panel overlooking the kitchen. Fascinating to watch the young talent! Great drinks. Great cake!

Well - even if you're living in Vienna this is the must be regarding sweet stuff. As I do not like Sacher (totally overrated) hence Demel is where the magic happens. Very touristic and due to that crowded but if you make a reservation you avoid the queue.

We went to Demel because my best friend insisted. We tried to get in for a lunchtime pastry but the line was out the door and there was a lot of confusion as to where one she queue in order to eat. So, we decided to get there around the opening time the following day. Still confusion but we managed... More

30 years ago I had the most outstanding cup of hot chocolate at Demel. I promised myself to come back someday for another. During the holidays, I finally returned and was not disappointed. A cup of chocolate and apple struedel fulfilled my expectations. I asked if I could purchase the cocoa powder, so that I would not have to wait... More

Walking around Vienna, you see plenty of the ubiquitous Demel bags on the arms of both tourists and locals so we thought we'd give the place a go. I'm glad we went in to satisfy my curiosity but I'd not recommend the place. The downstairs is very ornate with lots of dark wood and heavy curtains. The front serves a... More

We waited a long to be seated because the place is famous and for this reason often overcrowded but we were warned about it. The annoying thing was that the waiters left a lot of tables unseated while a lot of persons were waiting standing on the queue. After that we were seated in a small table at the first... More

After confusion about where to sit and a 20 minute wait (we just turned up on a snowy day) we were led to a small table in one of the upstairs tea rooms. The menu was more extensive than we expected with a nice range of food for lunch and alcoholic drinks. The portions are decent too; we had salmon... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
