We had a great evening with fine foods, delicious drinks and attentive service at the mat & vinkjeller. And I have to say as usual. So far we have never been disappointed yet.

We dined in the entry room of the wine cellar. I was concerned that it might be chilly in January, but the room was cozy and warm. Although the menu features seafood dishes, I and another guest ordered the lamb and beef mains (as I do eat fish) and both dishes were delicious. The lamb was so tender that it... More

When you are booking table 3 weeks earlier, you don't expect table next to the entrance. Service: our waiter Pavel was excellent but not the lady with Swedish accent (she really needs to think why she has this job or at least take some lessons from Pavel). Food: Main course was very bad, the meat was not OK at all... More

The wine cellar is quaint. The service is good. The food is very good. The wine list is extraordinary. They promote the tasting menu with paired wines. We ordered à la carte. The cod main was excellent. The Norwegian pancake desert was so-so. The prices were reasonable for Oslo fine dining (no bargains in this high cost country). I look... More

The wine cellar is a cosy, relaxing setting for a meal and the food and wine are both fantastic. The service was excellent and the staff were incredibly accommodating when it turned out I had stupidly forgotten to inform them of my lactose intolerance. Amazing meal, welcoming atmosphere - hope to be back one day.

Was there with six colleagues. Had the 7-course tasting menu and the upgraded wine package. Quite simply superb. Great tastes, great variation, good timing, very friendly waiters who had worked to know what they served, Every dish was excellent and interesting, the whale included - maybe the Pollock (sei) was my only slight disappointment - cod is always better in... Statholder Gården is the main restaurant on the ground floor. This restaurant has had a one star michelin star for years. In the basement is Statholderens Mat & Vinkjeller. Bocuse d'or winner Stiansen is owner of and main chef in both restaurants. Therefore, the quality of food in the basement restaurant is of high michelin gourmet quality, but less expensive... More

No doubt, this was the best dinner we had during our trip to Norway. We wondered if we should dine in the gourmet restaurant or in the bistro, but being on our way back from a trip to the Arctic, we only brought casual clothes and therefore decided to go for the bistro. The bistro is in the cellar, a... More
