Characters Tea House transforms itself on a Friday and Saturday evenings into an exciting stone cooking themed restaurant. Brett and Annie look after you in a very friendly and homely way doing all the cooking and front of house hospitality. The menu is fairly limited...More

Really quirky little place, decorated in a non traditional way, friendly staff and good scones! Good prices. Didn't have a meal but the food coming out looked good. Easy stroll from the Tram ride

Visited earlier this week, warm and welcoming, excellent pot of tea, with "proper" tea leaves !! Decor took me back to childhood, especially one of the light-fittings, Grandmother had exactly the same one !! Will definitely be back.

I visited here with my mum and we had a lovely afternoon. We ordered afternoon tea which was so reasonably priced compared to the £90 a head on the sea front in the hotels. Our bill came to under £20 for afternoon tea for two...More

This tea house turns into a "hot stone" restaurant 2 nights a week and is booked up well ahead. The decor is quirky but the service is friendly and the atmosphere is fun. It is not licensed so you have to bring your own drinks...More

Description
Welcome to Characters Teahouse and Hot Stone Restaurant. A secret to be found. Tucked away in a side street we are not easy to find. But when you do you are in for a big surprise. We are different to say the least..You could say quirky and you would be right. Old second hand china, cups, saucers, plates, glasses, furniture etc all bought from charity shops and completely mismatched giving the place character and ambiance hence the name Characters. Food is wholesome and unpretentious ,soups, sandwiches, hand made cakes & scones of different flavours forming the basis of our now famous Afternoon Tea. Accompanied by proper loose leaf tea & coffee of your choice we are open daytime 11am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. In the evening Friday & Saturday serving from 6.30pm to 8.00pm our also famous "Steak on the Stone" Accompanied by "Bring your Own" wine, beer or champagne. Whenever you decide to visit you will be greeted with a big welcome from the staff & management of this lovely family run restaurant..hopefully see you soon. Characters Team
