We went here for my father in laws 80th Birthday and were looking forward to it as they have eaten here before and enjoyed it, but not us. We waited ages for anyone to ask if we wanted a drink. When we had ordered we had to ask for the wine list twice. The starters were the better part of... More

I went along with 3 girlfriends and we had a wonderful evening. The boat feels luxurious and the welcome and service were also excellent. The food while good was not wow, although the beef with Roquefort was stunning. Small portion sizes for some but for 3 courses I though it was perfect. Excellent wine service from Hugo.

Service and ambience are good here. Venue is well located and well presented and they would like to look after you. There is just about enough variety on the menu, altough there could be more. The menus change every second month. The lamb as a main course was good, but the only starter I fancied was the pork belly, which... More

Excellent, attentive buy obtrusive lunch time service. A reasonably priced beautifully cooked meal with a glass of wine. After the table was brushed followed the clearing of our main course dishes, it seemed churlish not to order dessert and coffee!

We went at lunch time to celebrate a birthday. The fixed price menu was varied and a little different. (3 courses £20.95). A la carte pricier. Our menu choices were delicious, service was friendly. The boat was quiet as it was the day after a bank holiday but music was being played, but not intrusively.. This is one of the... More

We had heard good things about the Mariners and have eaten at their sister-restaurant, the Great House in Lavendon, which is absolutely brilliant. The boat itself is interesting - a bit run-down from the outside but interesting ambience and nice views from the inside. The boat doesn't move at all, but our table was disconcertingly off-level, which felt strange. Service... More

This was our first visit here and will certainly not be our last. The boat does not look much from the outside, but once inside it is lovely. Certainly one of the best places in Ipswich if you want a romantic candlelit dinner. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. Service was really good and very friendly. I chose the... More

With my birthday approaching, and always desiring to dine on a boat, my boyfriend booked the mariners in celebration of my 22nd birthday. When we arrived, the staff were very welcoming, taking our coats and showing us to our seats. The setting is idyllic and very romantic. It's one of those places where you can imagine engagements may take place... More

So, this is a very old gun boat which has been converted into a floating restaurant on the Ipswich Waterfront. Be warned- it gets busy, but we took a chance last Friday and got lucky. It is a wonderful experience inside - please do not be fooled by its external appearance. The staff are wonderful and really attentive without being... More
