I was visiting Colchester and found this lovely JD Wetherspoons. Lovely looking building, great staff and service and a busy nice atmosphere. Food and drinks are very well priced and the new app to order at the table is wonderful. Totally recommend this pub.

If you like Wetherspoons, you will know what to expect from the food and drink, reasonable food at good prices and a large drink selection. Unfortunately, there is no outside area, but it's nice to sit on the old stage and look at the gallery where a few dozen characters/cardboard cutouts have been placed.

This is a lovely old pub which used to be a theatre. It still has a lot of the old decor and character of those days - I love the puppets, models and standees of old and new celebrities (not all theatre / film related) dotted about in the old gallery seats - it was fun seeing how many we... More

this is a really good Wetherspoons pub in a historic setting. The stage and balcony have been preserved to give a feel for an old music hall. We had quick and good service. The food was really good with no complaints. We tried local beer which was also good. A memorable experience.

Visited the playhouse whilst in Colchester for a work meeting. Popped in for lunch just in time for the new menu launch. Such an amazing range of new dishes! Well done guys!

As with most Wetherrspoons the Playhouse has been fitted out in an incredible way keeping to the original theatre layout as much as possible. As with all Wetherspoons the menu is extensive, cheap and of good quality. great place for a pre theatre meal.

On a recommend from my daughter, we ate at the quirky Wetherspoons located in the old Playhouse Theatre, despite my distaste for the extreme politics of Tim Martin, its owner! It was an overall good experience which I will repeat, for sure. The setting is quite unusual and great fun! You dine or drink with the Queen, President Obama, the... More

As a student I tend to go to the Playhouse when out in town with friends. I've never had a problem with the quality of the food, for the price it is I don't expect a 5 star dinner. It's cheap and cheerful and all the characters in the dress circle make for some good conversation. Being able to get... More

Excellent value for money. Quick service. Menus detail calories which is helpful to those on a diet. Will be returning again.
