A group of eleven visited The Ostrich for lunch today. It's decor is really nice following the refurbishment, very warm and inviting with a roaring fire. We were sat in room at the back which was great. I had ham, egg and chips and it was delicious. A very generous portion of great tasting off the bone ham, perfect eggs... More

Popped in on Sunday evening for a drink and want to congratulate the Ostrich on what appears to be a superb refurbishment. We had the pleasure of meeting the new deputy manager, he filled us in on the renovations (it now has rooms, so a traditional Inn too) and from the description of the rooms, they sound delightful. On this... More

Searched in Google "Gastro Pubs" and the Ostrich came up. I called ahead as I know it was closed a couple of weeks ago for refurbishment and also as it was a Sunday. The lady answered and was very helpful, she booked us a table for two by the fire. On arrival we were quickly asked for drinks and we... More

Ate here with a colleague while away on business. Cannot speak highly enough about the service, or the standard of food. Will visit again

A good location for a business team dinner. We had about 18 guests and all went well. Food was consistently good and as an ancient Inn, it is good for international guests seeking to sample British gastro pub culture. Real ale on tap.

This pub is so quirky and lovely inside, staff are friendly and all drinks are available. I have eaten here before and it was lovely. We come here quite a few times and digs are allowed too. The only downside to this pub is the size of the bar seating area -it's tiny and often full. The restaurant is large... More

We booked way in advance and were surprised that the restaurant was not that full on a Saturday evening, but the staff were helpful locating me several pairs of abandoned spectacles as I had left my reading glasses in the hotel enabling me to read the menu!! Good wine list, not too expensive for the area, and a varied menu.... More

We had 2 large tables for our group (about 18 people) and submitted our orders earlier in the day, that said, we were waiting for quite some time before the meals were ready. The food was very nice, I can recommend the steak and ale pie, great pastry and gravy with a slight peppery tang.

The mind must play tricks. I was last here 20 years ago and had a memorable lunch, so much so that after flying in to Heathrow, I found the time to visit again. Disappointing. For an old building it has lost much of its character, Colnbrook is difficult to access with traffic systems, the car park is partly a building... More

Believed to date back to the 12th century, The Ostrich on the old Bath to London road, close to Heathrow Airport and Terminal 5, is said to be England's third oldest inn. It's certainly a very fine example of its kind, combining everything you'd expect in a historic coaching inn: beams, nooks, fireplaces, crooked stairs, a cobbled courtyard and an interesting (albeit macabre) history. The chunky contemporary wooden furniture and bright colours come as a bit of a surprise, and work well with the huge, sagging beams, standing timbers and open fires. A wide-ranging menu serves good, freshly prepared food and reflects the demands of the area (the M4 and M25 are very near) and the concomitant mix of people. The specials board changes daily, while a lunch menu that is always ready within 20 minutes. A hearty Sunday lunch menu is served all dy long allowing you to indulge in a proper lie in and still have time for a roast.A private function room upstairs plays host to regular comedy nights and is available for hire for functions.
