An eclectic mix of tourist gifts ,proprietors art and a cafe which served coffee and snacks. It appeared to be in search of an identity

Stopped in here for a light lunch. Good selection of bases plus fillings, everything from pizza and pittas to jacket potatoes and oatcakes. Select your base and then the fillings either from their suggested combinations or create your own. Good selection of drinks, both alcoholic...More

Went to the Reel for a drink and a coffee on one of their Wednesday Music Nights. Had a great evening being entertained by the Orkney Accordian and Fiddle Club.

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. Great paninis! Many choices on their menu. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Restaurant does need some updating but that fact doesn't interfere with their food! Try it.

We ate there on our visit to Kirkwall which is excellent for a gourmet sandwich break which is very hearty and very good. The cakes are also famous.

And unusual inn. Or coffee shop. Or recording studio. Depends which floor you are on, but we were largely interested in coffee, which is ground floor. The coffee was good. The atmosphere and ambience reasonable. Men - if going to the loo, train for mountaineering,...More

My mum would have loved it here. Elderly Musicians playing endless medleys of wartime favourites with violins, piano and a dozen accordions coordinating to create a display of a bygone era. Schoolmistress-type pianist runs it all from a standup piano and sheets of well rehearsed...More

Description
The Reel In 2002 the Wrigley Sisters returned to Orkney to live and set up their business, and in 2004 The Reel was established, allowing them to ‘put something back into’ the community of Orkney.’ "With both lasses having now settled back in Orkney their attention has turned to managing the ‘Reel’ – the sisters’ Centre of Music on Broad Street in Kirkwall. The centre has experienced phenomenal success in the few years it has been open, to the extent that it has recently moved to the building formerly occupied by VisitOrkney, next to St Magnus Cathedral. "Aswell as a being home to many folk & blues sessions and the Orkney Strathspey and Reel, The Reel also holds various classes in many different instruments taught by a wealth of talented teachers. The Reel offers and encourages a fully ‘inclusive’ approach, catering for all members of the community, especially families, and all age groups. The existing aesthetics, atmosphere and management approach fully encourages, supports and positively impacts upon this ethos. The management’s existing attitude and approach to providing a high quality and friendly customer service is also considered exemplary.
