Having worked for several renowned chefs including Heston Blumenthal and Gordon Ramsay, he expresses his passion for food through his enthusiasm, creativity and theatre. Very enjoyable meal with friends. Totally different dining experience to the main restaurant. The food is first class although some dishes were only just warm enough. Under the previous manager (Richard Young) we had hors d'oeuvre served in highly lacquered black boxes in the cocktail bar with drinks which felt very special; this is no longer part of the experience, and in fact drinks in the cocktail bar were missing as we were not asked if we would like drinks before going in to dine. The lunch time price has risen under the new owners going from a modest £38 in 2018 to £45 in 2019/20 and I see that it will now be £50 for 4 courses (no choices and no coffee included) in August this year when it re-opens. Worth a visit.

Dear GettingGoing Thank you for your review. Drinks in the Cocktail Bar are offered depending on the time of arrival. Since the change in ownership, we had a change in chef and Tony Parkin is now looking after the restaurant. His style of food and offering does differ to the previous chef. We look forward welcoming you back after the reopening. With kind regards Sandra Mueller General Manager

Perfect lunch for my wife’s 60th Birthday. Food was very tasty, served by very attentive waiters and chefs(a nice touch). Advertised as 4 courses, but with extra courses this was amazing value at £45 including coffee and petit fours. Another nice touch was a signed menu as a “ birthday card”.

Definitely the place for a great dinning experience. The Tudor dinning room is the ideal place for any special occasion. The staff were very friendly and attentive with each course being brought to the table by one of the chefs who described what you were about to eat and if you wanted any further information. The 7 course sampler menu was the most fantastic dinning experience with flavours bursting in your mouth. Dietary changes were achieved without any problems or fuss nothing was too much. A definite to return on another day. 👍👍

We had the seven course tasting menu which was okay, not really blown away by it. Out of the 7 dishes 4 had a frozen element to it, and 2 had caviar, in my view no 2 dishes should have the same element, as everything was quite cold the flavours weren’t there for me. The main dish which was monkfish was served only lukewarm and to top it off the room was freezing, I know the hotel is old but did not make for a welcoming experience. Apologies we did not take any photos as did not feel comfortable taking them in a small dining space. Somewhat disappointing for £95 person.

Went for Saturday lunch. I have an allergy to cream and they catered to me providing sensible alternatives, I did not once feel short changed or that my dish was incomplete. The wild seabass with leek, ginger and caviar was incredible, the venison and beetroot delicious. The chocolate dessert with blood orange sorbet also amazing. My girlfriend is vegetarian and often disappointed in restaurants by bland and similar offerings. She was as pleased as me and blown away by some of the dishes especially the hen of the woods mushroom. Highly recommended.

My husband and I visited last night and had the seven course tasting menu which was excellent. We also had the wine flight with different wines matched to each course which all worked perfectly. We loved the fact that a chef from the kitchen came out to explain what each plate of food was, something that we have not experienced elsewhere. All of the staff were incredibly friendly, courteous and well informed, they could not have done more for us. The meal was a birthday gift from friends and everyone knew that we were there to celebrate a birthday, from Casper the barman to the chefs who brought the food out. The previous review under the name of Jim Kirkwood is a false account set up in my husband’s name, the review is completely false and we are taking steps to have it removed. We had the most amazing evening and we cannot recommend it enough.

The Team in the Tudor Room never fail to provide a wonderful dining experience. The lunch we had last week was of high quality ingredients, perfectly cooked and exquisitely presented. The menu was imaginative with a choice to delight even our vegetarian. The wine flight was a good complement to each course. Service was charming. Our party are all 'Golden Oldies' and the experience has really lifted our spirits. Well worth a visit.

We came for the tasting menu for my 30th birthday and it was outstanding. The service was excellent, staff couldn’t do enough for us - our water was topped up, we were offered drinks and the chefs described each course as they delivered it. The food itself was exceptional - I particularly enjoyed the parsnip dish and the venison. I also asked a question about an ingredient (I was curious as I couldn’t quite place it) and although the lady wasn’t sure, she went away and promptly came back to inform us. All in all an excellent experience - I would certainly return.

We went to the Tudor Room for a birthday lunch and did not get the Michelin experience we were expecting. The main course was Fallow Deer and my daughter does not eat this, we politely asked if there was an alternative, the immediate response, “You were asked if you had any dietary requirements.” True, however I took this question to mean allergies, pregnancy or vegan requirements. The menu was not shared with us at any point before we got to our table on the day. The waiter seemed incredulous that someone did not want something on the menu and reluctantly said he would ask the chef. He returned and said there no, there was no alternative. Surely it would not have not been that difficult to replace the deer with chicken, beef, lamb or the vegetarian option in a hotel such as Great Fosters? To make matters worse the waiter continued to try and persuade my daughter to have the deer saying, “It’s just like steak.” “Do you really not want it?” He also came back during our meal and said, “Are you sure you don’t want to try it?” How many times do you have to say no thank you?? She consequently had a slice of beetroot, a spoonful of celeriac puree and a mushroom for her main course; this was very poor customer service and definitely not Michelin Star. We are not fussy eaters, but would recommend you only book the Tudor Room if you are prepared to eat absolutely everything.

Eaten and enjoyed the Tudor Room since it’s first inception. However today the experience was somewhat spoiled for my guest by a rather indifferent service. The young lady was superb but the two guys were just unaware. It was impossible to attract their attention as they were either looking out the window or at notes or something. The normal experience of reading the room was only carried out by the lady. Oddly we had just sat down and a chef placed food in front of us. We had not been offered an aperitif or asked if we wanted a drink. We actually wondered if they had delivered someone else’s meal by mistake. Water was not topped up until we deliberately spoke loud enough about the lack of attention so that the lady attending to the next table took charge and organised the other two. We had to ask for the service to slow down as it was becoming difficult for my guest to enjoy it. A sad introduction to someone when it has always been superb before. Too much work covered by the lady because the other two men just weren’t professional. It improved a little towards the end. If I had been asked to add a gratuity I would have refused for the first time in my life but it was already included and I didn’t want an embarrassment in front of my friend. We will go again because the food demands it. I just hope they realise they are meant to be providing an experience as well.

As it is in a hotel, parking is easy. I was nervous about going here as in the past I had found dinner at Great Fosters a bit lacking in atmosphere. Tony Parkin however is not that, it is in a small room, with a cosy feeling and while there was chatter at each table it still felt quiet and relaxed even with the nice music too. A nice welcome, we were given the menu and ordered drinks. The amuse bouche were very good indeed. It is a fixed menu, with fur courses between the amuse bouche and the petit fours or mignardise with coffee/tea. Every course was excellent. Good mix of textures, very good quality produce and great flavour. I am not keen on artichoke, however the dish with that was excellent. Scallops very good, fallow deer very good and the chocolate dessert very good indeed. We were shown to a nice room to have our coffee/tea. Service was excellent, a good mix between friendly and formal which the best of places get just right these days. Some of the dishes were brought out and presented by one of the chefs, a very nice touch. We really enjoyed the whole evening. It is battling the problem of a 10pm curfew so it has two sittings but the service is smooth and it did not feel rushed. We went for the 6.30pm sitting and 1.5 hrs for those courses works just fine.

We booked the restaurant during a short stay at its hotel location - Great Fosters. This was the highlight of the trip. The room itself has a magnificent Tudor beamed ceiling and beautiful tapestries on the walls - which gives a wonderful ambience to the meal. Service was impeccable (unlike the rest of the hotel) and the chef serving and explaining the dishes was delightful. We had the ten course tasting menu starting with excellent canapes which just exploded great flavours into the mouth. Other highlights were the cold grape and almond veloute, the scallops and the lamb with truffles and the milk and honey dessert was sublime.. The presentation was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well worth the trip and expense. We shall certainly look to return.

Amazing experience at the Tudor Room. The setting itself was very intimate inside the beautiful Great Fosters hotel and wait staff were all extremely welcoming and professional. Arrived early and enjoyed a cocktail in the cocktail lounge before being escorted through for dinner. The food was incredible, each of the 10 courses brought through by one of the chefs and the ingredients talked through. Some exquisite flavours and textures with the head chef’s Thai influences beautifully infused into a number of the dishes. Hard to pick a favourite of the courses as they were all so good. We added the cheese board in between the savoury and sweet courses which wasn’t wholly necessary but well worth it. The white chocolate in the final sweet course made it one of the best desserts we’ve ever had. We opted for the wine flight to accompany the meal and thoroughly glad we did. Each of the wines was perfectly paired with each course and Jude was a very knowledgeable and attentive somellier and even went to the trouble of writing down the wines we’d had when asked. If you get the chance, I’d wholly recommend this experience.

I made a reservation approximately two months ahead for my self and a friend when we knew we would be in the area. My friend has several food intolerances which I understand can be a challenge, however many great chefs have managed to feed us spectacular food. Not here it would seem. A week before the reservation I received a call cancelling the booking as it did not fit with the menu chef wanted to serve. So disappointed this took so long for the restaurant to do having given them fair notice

We had a fantastic lunch at Tony Parkins The Tudor Room Restaurant The food was mouthwatering and the staff were all very attentive and very friendly . The atmosphere was relaxing and friendly . Every course was a wonderful experience and what made it entertaining and personal was every course brought to the table, the chief came with it to tell us about where it was locally sourced and produced. It was lovely personal touch that made the whole experience more enjoyable . Well done Tony Parkin and your team ! Loved it, well worth a visit and we will defiantly be coming back ! Thank you Nicky and Gary Allen
