When I visited for a party with family, the staff didn't really seem as friendly as I have seen before. Also, the food was nice but I would not make a trip especially for it. The drinks were very nice though.

Swung off the A1 as I was too tired to continue my drive North. In need of food and sleep. This place was simply next to a free parking space. This has been an inn for 400 years and certainly provided us with much needed shelter. The car park used to house 100 horses, now plenty space for cars. Went... More

Very quaint old pub, very friendly staff. Four of us ate dinner and were very happy with all starters and mains. Steak and Ale Pie, Fish and Chips, Pork Belly and Mixed Grill, enormous portions nicely plated and served hot. Wine and Beer selections excellent

We love it here, either for a drink or breakfast or food. The staff are friendly, the children are welcome, as is the Dog! Favourite pub in Wetherby!

Called in at 19.00 on a Sunday...wanting food. We were not disappointed. We had four dogs with us and they fitted us in the Snug. The Sunday late lunches were delicious...freshly cooked, roast beef, Yorkshire puds lashing of different veg and roast potatoes. Couldn't have asked for better. Really lovely. The puds were good too.

Description
A pub for more than 400 years, The Swan and Talbot in Wetherby was once a posting inn on the Great North Road. Originally named the Dog and Swan, the pub was, until 1611, allowed to bear the coat of arms of the Swann family who lived at Askham Manor in nearby Askham Richard. The 'dog' was a talbot hound - an extinct type of hunting dog whose closest modern day descendant is the beagle - and the pub's name was changed to The Swan and Talbot. The pub and letting accommodation has recently seen extensive refurbishment and is proving to be a popular haunt for many of Wetherby's locals and destination diners. Inside, the pub has low ceilings befitting the age of the place, and at one end, a huge fireplace over which hangs a brief history of how it acquired its name.
