Had a thoroughly forgettable meal at smugglers . Impressive fish selection - plaice , cod, mackerel , sea bass plus lobster and crab. All looking out to sea with fishing boats and seagulls squawking . "Which fish is fresh" ? - "none today" hmm. I ordered the fish pie . Truly awful. Waterlogged bland and tasteless mash straight from the... More

Quaint, nostalgic and always full! We always have a meal here each time we visit Ilfracombe. We book a day in advance just to be sure we get a table. Food is always good although a smaller menu would perhaps ensure that food is freshly cooked and not frozen as the kitchen looks small, ambience is always welcoming, music is... More

Great ambience, the restaurant decor is amazing. The food is not very special but not dissapointing and I guess its resonably priced thinking that this is in a touristy area. The kids portion is very reasonably priced.

What a strange place! Decor unbelievable very dark and lots of things painted gloss black. Was like stepping back in time. Brass pots and all sorts of strange objects hanging up. Should have left as soon as we read the menu as huge choice which as most people know is a bad sign as nothing cooked well. Staff were polite... More

The inside is comfy and welcoming. We were given a warm and genuine welcome and given a choice of where to sit. Service continued... More

FROZEN. MICROWAVED. RUBBISH. Beautiful restaurant in a great location makes great cover for low budget insultingly priced frozen packeted food assumed to be from local Lidl. Even the cheese baguette was microwaved. We just hope the restaurant provide fresh fish when the summer season begins. Really enjoyed the venue. Nicely priced wine. Great Bar and Service.

We have just spent a few days staying in Ilfracombe. We chanced upon The Smugglers on our first trip to the quay. I had swordfish and my wife had sea bass, it was really tasty and well prepared and served with a good selection of vegetables and potatoes. In fact it was so good we returned there the following two... More
