We headed to this as the only pub in the Good Beer Guide in Stirling and discovered a true gem of a place! We turned up on a Saturday night and saw that the food menu looked really good, but unfortunately they had no tables available for almost 2 hours. However we stopped for a drink and the staff were... I wish I could have stayed in Stirling longer just so I could eat at Portcullis again. The food was excellent! The steak with pepper sauce is a must have, as is the deep fried Camembert, top it off with their sticky toffee pudding and you'll have an idea of what Heaven must be like! Staff is very attentive, friendly... More

Attended a family dinner for my aunt's birthday. A good night had by all. The Highland chicken was delicious (chicken, haggis and a drambuie sauce). Waiting staff very attentive and friendly. Good views over the Forth Valley. We could see the new Queensferry road bridge the night we were there.

Generous helpings of good honest food served by friendly, helpful staff. A real find with cosy outdoor space tucked under the Castle. Well worth a visit.

I had "garlic chicken with salad and potatoes". It was apparently only "garlic" because there was garlic bread on the plate. Also on the plate was: Cucumber with green onion cut like a palm tree Single slice of green pepper 2 tomato slices Shredded carrots Sprig of arugula Coleslaw Canned corn (not warmed up) Small handful of kraft shredded cheese... Had a table reserved on Friday night Plenty of parking in the castle car park. Great beer. Obviously a haunt of locals - lively atmosphere. Good beer and friendly staff. Meal was good. Highly recommend for visitors to Stirling!

Took friends from Gloucester in for a beer. 3 staff were behind the bar and after 15 minutes of being ignored i decided to leave. No eye contact, no sorry I'll be with you in a minute, all 3 appeared to be busy dealing with a meal order mix up. Shoddy service and won't put another foot in the door... More

I have been here several times with my family. The decor is very charming and traditional and you feel right at home with the log fire burning in the corner. All of the staff are friendly, pleasant and their personality shines through their service. As for the food, really reasonable pricing and very big portions (2 things I love). Last... More
