We visit The Leathers Smithy when we want a good lunch as a treat. Once again we were given a warm welcome when we visited yesterday. The weather was awful but once inside it was warm and comfortable. There is always an interesting Specials Board and the food is freshly prepared to order, well presented and plentiful . Our plates... More

I came here with family after a walk for Sunday lunch - I would recommend booking if visiting at the weekend as it was very busy. Nonetheless, the staff were friendly and the service was prompt. The pub was warm and cosy, which was good as we were cold and wet! The food menu had loads of choice, including a... More

Arrived on a rainy day after a long walk only to be told that they don't allow dogs! We have a well behaved Labrador who has travelled everywhere and been in some top restaurants all over Europe. This scruffy pub is in the middle of nowhere with stone floors. Would not recommend it considering that they call themselves a walkers... More

Visited here whilst working away. Tricky to find but stick with the postcode as it comes up trumps eventually! Warm greeting, beautiful location with stunning scenery. Food left no room for deserts but was beautifully prepared and served. No complaints at all but will be back again next week. Many thanks for warm hosts and a beautiful fire on a... More

This is a pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere, beautifully located on the edge of Macclesfield Forest. With a good range of well-kept ales, the food selection is extensive and tasty. The main menu provides traditional options for pub-food but the specials board is extensive and offers some more unusual combinations. We loved the duo of sea bream with... More

We met up with two friends like we do each month and they had reserved a table for lunch. Two of us had a prawn cocktail straight from the seventies the mains were two ham and eggs, one steak and one fish and chips. All cooked and served very nicely. This is is not a Michelin star restaurant but at... More

Lovely location and friendly helpful staff. Very pleasant ambience with log fire. So great to see no less than three veggie options on the specials board. My chick pea and mushroom tagine with couscous was delicious and a very generous portion. My fellow diners had the wildboar wellington which they all enjoyed - they also had a choice of salad,... I have eaten many a meal here and have never been disappointed. The food is excellent and very well priced, the staff are some of the nicest, friendliest people I have ever met and the atmosphere, views and walking are all of the highest standard. Highly recommended.

We were greeted by the Landlord and told that the pub closed at 20.00, as it was 18.30 we judged we would be finished by then. The crab cakes starter were obviously bought in and not very tasty. My wife and grandson had fish and chips that were nothing to write home about. My steak and kidney pudding was very... More

This is a traditional pub in a lovely waterside setting on the edge of Macclesfield forest. Excellent food is served lunchtime and evening. A standard menu is supplemented by a daily "blackboard" of "specials" which features the best of local produce. The pub have a range of traditional ales including guest beers. In the winter real fires warm the stone floored bar area as well as the more formal dining area of the pub. Very popular and booking is essential at weekends. As residents of the area we aware of what the competition has to offer and feel that Leather's Smithy provides excellent food of consistent quality at a very fair price.
