I have visited the Monk 5 times, most recently Christmas last year and the food, especially the nibbles, are really exceptional. The Haggis Bon Bons are so good! The steak is a favourite as the meat has so much flavour, cannot remember where it is...More

Visited the Merry Monk on a Friday night, my other half had the pork belly starter and could not praise it enough! Quoted the best starter he'd ever had. The rest of the meal continued to impress and the service matched. Will be returning very...More

This was the second visit in as many months and the experience was again excellent. The front of house staff were welcoming and we were seated promptly. The menu is just too tempting, we selected drinks from the bar and a starter, a main and...More

I have eaten here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it never disappoints. Recently I had fish & chips for lunch over the Easter break and it was so tasty, definitely one to recommend! The staff are always very friendly and welcoming and the place...More

I love the steak here but my favourite dish anywhere is fish and chips. Here, the monk has served up a rather special taste of the coast, while adding the twist of tantalising luxury, that one should quickly learn to associate with this village gem.

The Merry Monk is a great place for friendly service, excellent food and beer. We enjoyed a lovely lunch, all beautifully presented. A talented chef and kitchen.

Another wonderful Sunday lunch at The Merry Monk. Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Great meal enjoyed by the whole family including our 3 young children who want to know when we can go back again!

Great value dinner with friends so returned a couple of days later for Sunday lunch. Both were great visits, good value, both quality and service couldn't be faulted. My wife and I had wonderful meals both visits, particularly the Sunday lunch.

Clearly the recent review of the Merry Monk is totally fake and obviously written by someone who for some reason has a vendetta against the restaurant or the owners. (clue: the reference to The White Pheasant in Fordham is a bit of a giveaway!). I have dined at the restaurant multiple times with family, friends and business associates, and the friendly staff are VERY well versed with the menu and the wine list. So to the haters I say this - if you have a problem - then tell them! Don't keep quiet while you are there and then slander what is a family business on a public forum. And to the writer of the recent, obviously fake, negative review - GROW UP!

Firstly do not assume a less than excellent review is a 'hater'! My review was an honest account of my visit... The manager could have responded if he felt anything said was unfair. As a first time diner, who had driven some... More

Tucked away in the Cambridgeshire fens, The Merry Monk started life as three cottages in the 17th Century and from there became The Red Lion Public House until 1992 when it was renamed The Merry Monk. Roaring log fires for cosiness during the winter months and a garden rounding off a gorgeous country restaurant offer perfection for enjoyment throughout the year. Our focus at the Merry Monk is a casual and inviting atmosphere.
