Stunning sea cliff view

Beautiful views to be enjoyed at this sea food place, where we had lunch. The dishes (marinated tuna and the fish tartar) were tasty. The fish tartar could have used a mall side bowl of rucola or some other trimming. We give the place 4.5 stars: Five for the location and four for the food. We sent back the bill, which had a wrong extra item on it. Corrected, we paid 68 € for the two dishes and two bottles of water. Rather steep, but the views were worth it.

Beautiful View & Service!

My sister and I went to this restaurant as it was on a list of recommendations from our hotel. If you’re looking for the best view of Positano, I would definitely say this is it! It was stunning! When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready and we were lead to a waiting area where we were served complimentary champagne. My sister and I greatly appreciated that and it was a kind gesture since we were celebrating. We were seated 10 minutes later on the deck and we were given incredible service. I enjoyed the risotto which was absolutely delicious. It is a bit expensive but every restaurant in the area is pricey so it was expected. It was a very great night and we cannot wait to come back again! Thank you!

Very good dinner overall. Of course you’re paying for the view which is incredible, whether in the day or night. I ordered the risotto with prawns and was quite happy that so many prawns were diced into the meal. Usually restaurants skimp so glad they didn’t here! My friend liked her pulpo but not so much the hard bread crust that came atop. The waiter recommended an excellent dry white wine from the region, although the bottle price tag was eye-watering. Also €4 for the coperto was the steepest we paid at any place out to eat in Positano. Another niggling aspect: some food arrived at different times which is just poor showing from such an elegant place. Oh the plus side the restaurant offers blankets which my friend appreciated. The waiter went out of his way to showcase the fresh fish on offer.

One star for the view, which is amazing Another for the red prawn starter, which was genuinely fantastic. All down hill from there. The pasta dish from al dente to uncooked (see photo, you can see it’s not cooked through). Main of possibly sea bass, slightly over but with the weirdest of purées that was chilled with hot fish. Desserts descended into chaos. A lemon tart with no pastry. A tiramisu with a concrete base. A ricotta/chocolate dish which was stale. €80 a head just for food. First bad meal in ten days, and the most expensive. Find a little cafe if you want the view, you’ll probably get better food too. They did take €22 off a €622 bill though, so that makes it ok.

We had high hopes for this seemingly sophisticated restaurant with an outstanding view. Pros: Good food. We really enjoyed our pasta (spaghetti) and fish (with eggplant) plates. The appetizer (octopus) was very good. View is terrific. Cons: Service was inattentive (at best). The restaurant was full but not overflowing so as to create any sort of an excuse. 40 minutes from the time I asked for the check to when we received it (and it was incorrect by $42 - be sure to check your bill). Mind you, we asked for the check when we (after 15 minutes after ordering) had not received our after dinner drinks (which were not on our bill, so at least that part was correct). Yes. Your math is correct. 65 minutes of waiting and of being ignored. We watched other table of locals get much much better service. (We had no objections to the food and did not make a scene - we were just ignored.) $8 per person cover charge??? For dinner? Really? Absurd. Our evening started great and we had high hopes for a terrific night. After this horrible service, we will never return. Plenty of other places in Positano to visit, all with much, much better service.

Worst pizza of my life

Nice location but the food has to be review. I'm Italian and that pizza wasn't clearly the real italian one. The dough wasn't leavened and was very heavy, infact we didn't digest it at all. The mozzarella on top seems the fake one, was very chewy with no flavour. We were really disappointed especially when visiting Costiera Amalfitana. We won't go back in this restaurant.

A restaurant to avoid.

We were recommended a very expensive wine without knowledge of what it cost, ordered same Snapper dish as my partner, her’s came as grilled with veg, mine came as baked with potatoes. Both where filleted at table poorly with lots of bones left for us to sort or choke on. Overall the worst meal in the last 20 days in Italy! ( also the most expensive )

Don't miss this place!

We wandered in here on a whim our very first night in Positano, and our only regret was that we didn't make it back again before we left! The best mozzarella I've ever had, plus amazing pasta and the freshest, most delicious aperitif. The views are stunning, and the atmosphere is cool and modern. Just make sure to call ahead and check on their schedule—they seem to host a lot of weddings, so they might not be open for dinner every night you're there.

The worst meal/experience I had on my trip.

I normally don’t write reviews for restaurants, but this experience was so disappointing I felt the need to share. The view was nice, as others have shared, but the food and the service weren’t matched with the cost and the quality. It was very overpriced and had a 60 euro minimum per person. The staff was so arrogant and completely interrupted the beautiful atmosphere the location offered. Some of the runners/bus boys seemed to be walking on egg shells. Will not be returning and do NOT recommend. You can walk 50 feet down the road and get a meal 10x better than this one.

The location is priced into the food. The terrace has stunning views of Positano and the sea, and the tables are nicely set out. Service is good, and the food excellent. Try the pasta nerano, with lashings of fresh black truffle slices - delicious ! Prices are notably higher than other Positano restaurants, but at this one you don’t get cars and scooters whizzing by , right next to your table. Take dinner here as an extra treat, forget about the higher prices, and just enjoy it.

Spectacular views, airline quality drinks and snacks

Spectacular view, but they forgot to serve my overpriced drink that required me to talk to the manager. My family’s watered down drinks were only slightly better than the snacks - airline quality bag of chips, peanuts, and wheat cracker pugliesis. Did not stay for dinner.

Disappointing service

We booked in advance for the restaurant. We insisted for the view by phone and they said « no worries » so when we came they just gave us a table with no view (while all the front line was empty). Also it’s overpriced for the quality of food. Disapppinting experience unfortunately.

I am extremely sorry that I did not feel up to the service that was offered to you at our restaurant, One of our strengths has always been the staff that try from the first moment to welcome our guests and try to make them spend a pleasant evening and always remember with great pleasure. I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience that has been created with regard to the reservation, as as specified by phone from the beginning the only table available that we could reserve was precisely a table without sea view. We will have been willing to meet you at the moment and maybe offering you a glass of prosecco waiting for the first table overlooking the sea to be free, as we generally do with our customers who make the specific request of the table with a view. Not all the table at our restaurant are with sea view and a specific reservation is required in advance. Also sorry that you did not like the dinner and that you did not appreciate the quality of the food in your opinion,which is always chosen and selected with top quality products of our area. We will be more than happy to be able if you wish to have her again as our guest to ensure a different evening and give us together another opportunity, and hope that this feedback will be able to make us grow trying to improve in things that have not been to her liking. Gorgeous view, very good experience

My daughters and I ate at this restaurant on the recommendation of our hotel. The experience was very good. The service was professional and courteous - not robotic as some reviewers would describe it. If you are looking for a personal relationship with the server, go to a pub! The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. And of course, the view was second to none. A very good choice for a special meal in Positano.

Elegant, romantic and delightful

Finding Il Capitano was serendipitous for us. We arrived at their opening time and were able to be seated on this beautiful terrace looking over Positano and out to the Golfo di Salerno. Matching the gorgeous ambiance was the welcome and attention provided by every level of the service team. We ate here three evenings and found the various food choices absolutely terrific. Each night we felt welcome, served and treated to special items. We will remember these evenings and these people with pleasure.

Not the best in Positano

Great view ! Food was ok and the service was very robotic. No personality with the waiters, it’s clear they are there to provide service and not really engage. It’s a very modern clean space, but if you are looking for a great restaurant experience there are many other restaurants in the area.
