The first thing that I have to say about the restaurant is that it's located on the gorgeous Baia del silenzio, and the view from the table is stunning, especially before sunset of a beautiful summer day.
When I booked on the phone the Maitre...was very nice and he accommodated in the best way possible my request for the best table with the best view and he also was very sympathetic about the fact that we were with my disabled mother with a wheelchair.
Contrary to what another reviewer said, I found the "touch" of the prosecco upon seating at the table very enjoyable.
The two ladies who alternated to serve our table were very nice too, always very attentive to my mom's needs.
Alas, all these very nice things did not compensate the disappointment for the food. It's not a cheap place but I never mind at all if the food is very good, and the expectations for a known place mentioned by Michelin Guide were high.
My mom is a very simple eater and we requested for her a grilled fish filet (ombrina) with steamed rice, which was quite good in its simplicity, but you can't definitely go wrong with this dish. The menu is very exciting in its description of the dishes, my sister ordered Fusilli carbonara con gamberi e bacon and acciughe ripiene, I ordered spaghettoni con moscardini and Tataki di tonno.
The two pasta dishes were disappointing at the first bite. Very generic, without any distinctive flavor. The pasta cooked al dente was the only very good thing but hey, we are in Italy!
I would have never thought to eat mediocre fish pasta dish in a known Italian restaurant on the sea! After 20 minutes we had half finished our first course (the wait was strangely long even if we had put the forks on the unfinished plates in "take it away please" position, but we were enjoying the view) the waiter came to ask "if we wanted to order something else". I explained that we were actually waiting for our second course. She looked a bit surprised but very professionally replied "of course!", but the wait of 15 more minutes (you don't have to cook acciughe ripiene and tataki di tonno takes nothing) made it clear that somehow they had forgotten our dishes. Once again it is not what to expect from such a presumptuous restaurant, but it didn't really matter because the view is what entertained us. The two fish dishes were better than the pastas, but still I was expecting something excellent which they were not.
As said before, (apart from the long wait in between dishes) the service was very good, so my 3 stars review is only for the mediocre/average food which is also quite overpriced. I guess you pay the amazing view!More
