Our hotel, the Albergo Etruria, suggested we try La Vecchia Lira for lunch. We enjoyed their cafeteria style lunch options and could easily see that many locals like to come here too. The manager and staff were friendly, spoke English and the prices were reasonable. We also had dinner there, which is by menu order only (no lunch cafeteria style... More

We've been to La vecchia Lira for dinner. We didn't book a table so we left our names and came back about 40 minutes later and i'm glad we did. We had some house wine and a main (i had a steak with potatoes, and i must say that the meat was really good). Staff members were also really nice.... More

Though it might appear like a delicatessen from the street, this is a really nice restaurant with tables in the back. The menu is very creative, utilizing a lot of local ingredients in both unique and traditional ways. The pasta of the day was a fabulous play on fresh local mushrooms when we visited. Presentation and taste of the dishes... More

We went for dinner. This late in the season or at least early in the week, we had no trouble getting in. The good was wonderful. You can eat for a reasonable price or be at the top end, depending what you order. I has the volterran vegetable soup for 6.50 euro...and it's a meal in itself! Partner had mussels...totally... We were only in Volterra for 2 nights and couldn't get into this restaurant on the first evening (I had read about it on Tripadvisor and so was keen to go there) so we booked for the second evening and it was well worth it. I had the seafood gnocchi which was delicious and my partner had the wild boar... More

Expensive, but well worth the money spent. The food was delicious (there were three of us, and we all enjoyed our entrees and mains). They were very accommodating to our requested changes to some of the dishes (e.g., easy on the cream for the Tartufo pasta), and treated us with respect, which we didn't always encounter as American tourists. The... More

Delicious meal and neat owners (brothers), fine chef! My husband wiped clean every morsel of his pasta w/ sea urchins (!?!) dish and my pasta dish was yummy. Nice atmosphere and friendly interactions. The owners of our Albergo Etruria recommended this spot. We even returned the next day for a tasty light lunch.

We arrived early for dinner at about 7 and found a nice empty restaurant. We asked for a table and we were asked whether we had a booking - we said no and were asked to wait. After 5 minutes of waiting and being ignored, we walked out.

it was a good restaurant. the service was amazing, while the food was average. good, but as you would expect it to be in 80% of all italian restaurants. very funny weightor and enhanced the value of the dinner experience.

This place is self-service at lunchtime (good range of reasonably priced dishes) but full dinner service in the evening which I preferred. It's a family-owned restaurant serving traditional Tuscan food but with some interesting variations.Good atmosphere with plenty of locals in evidence; reasonably priced wine list; efficient service (apart from usual Italian reluctance to bring the bill!); and most importantly...
