We decided on a whim to visit on Friday as they had just posted on Facebook fish n chips for £6.95. So decided to go over. We didn't realise that the offer was in the bar area only so we did confuse the member of bar staff for a while. We ordered drinks and meal then found a seat in... More

We had steaks done exactly as requested with great chips and a tasty and colourful salad. Warm and friendly with a very interesting choice of draught local beers and ciders/Perry. Prices good value for money, though not cheap- the food was worth it. Thanks.

...........the Royal Oak at Meavy I said, neither of us had eaten there but we decided to go out for lunch. We hadn't booked and got there early, ordered drinks and were shown to a table. The is a menu and daily specials board. Both are varied and accommodate every palette. Food arrived promptly, was exactly as described on the... More

I have started going to this beautiful pub just of late and it is marvellous, the food is out standing and the Manager Frankie goes out of her way to accommodate your needs, she is excellent in her roll as Manager. The staff are warm and friendly just like the atmosphere that they create in this wonderful pub. Well done... More

We were recommended this pub and it didn't disappoint. Traditional style old pub in lovely village setting. Furniture a bit dated but the locally sourced food was very good. We had the sirloin steak which was very tasty. Best I've had in a long while. Good range of beers and ciders. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Interestingly the pub... More

Booked a table for dinner as last time we went the food was superb. Not so impressed this time, we all thought the food standard had gone downhill a bit. I had the special burger topped with pulled pork, turned out that the masses of pulled pork just turned the whole thing to a soggy mush & I didn't enjoy... More

Booked late in the day and we were warned we would have to have a table by the door which was good of them before we turned up. We had a superb meal, freshly cooked, including a lovely crusty pie! Wished we lived closer. If you are in the area, thoroughly recommended.

This restaurant/pub was recommended by our hotel, and it certainly did not disappoint. Local produce and meats (I believe) freshly prepared and delicious. Such a lovely spot although a little tricky finding it. Well worth the visit.

Description
The Royal Oak Inn is a free house owned by Burrator Parish Council. It is situated within the Dartmoor National Park, in an idyllic location next to the village green in Meavy. The pub is a former 15th-century church house inn. It takes its name from the oak tree on the village green which is reputedly some 800 years old. This is one of the few remaining traditional pubs, with a flagstone floor, old beams and a large open fireplace. Some of the seats are pews from the adjacent church. And the wood fire provides a warm welcome on those cold winter evenings. If character is what you want from your visit then you could find no better place!
