It’s great to know that we have local restaurants offering take away service during the pandemic. Anyone living in the Strathkinness area should definitely try out The Tavern. Order in advance or in the day and receive some excellent, fresh food. We had huge portions of Fish & Chips followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding. We couldn’t fault anything. Thank you to the team at The Tavern for keeping us all going

We were treated with a fantastic warm welcome and enjoyed a first class pint of Guinness whilst selecting from a good range of options on the menu. The deep fried Brie and mushrooms stuffed with haggis were the most popular in our group an both were excellent! All main courses were well presented and tasted fantastic, it is not difficult really 😁 good fresh local produce well prepared and presented results in a fantastic meal! Our mains were haddock served with great chunky chips and mushy peas, slow cooked port belly and steak pie and each dish proved to be first class. If you are anywhere near make sure you visit you will not be disappointed.

Was at the tavern on sunday afternoon and had the roast beef. This was the best bit of beef I have had in a long time and it was great value for money (£12.50). It was deliciously cooked and it came with vegetables, roast potatoes,a homemade Yorkshire pudding and a red wine gravey sauce. We have been to the tavern on many occasions and the staff are always friendly.

Food was nice enough, meals fairly expensive for what it was but of average quality other than the fish. The fish was extremely fresh and lovely. 5 small soft drinks were £6ish so those were reasonably priced. We checked online for a menu and booked a table and arrived there for steak pie. Steak pie wasn’t on the handwritten menus being passed about (not sure they were being binned making them single use) No single use sachets of salt and pepper either you’re given a shaker. All staff wearing PPE though and sanitiser dotted through out. The gentlemen behind the bar was very warm and welcoming as was the young female waitress. The woman (barb? I think) was a little dry and I feel that the staff are what makes a restaurant quite often.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch, 30/8, with a couple of friends. We recommended eating here as we’d been before and the food had been good. Today’s Sunday Roast Beef was beyond awful. Two in our party ordered it and when one asked the other if their’s was chewy the answer was a resounding yes. Called over a member of staff, explained the situation to which she said “yes, I know”., she said this about 5 times. Why keep the item on the menu when you know it’s totally inedible? Beggars belief. Presumably other lunches had been sent back with the same complaint from other customers before us. Customers that arrived after us were given the benefit of the information that the beef may not be the best, with a staff member explaining “some bits are beautifully tender and some are not”. Seriously! What chef worth his salt (no pun intended) sends out a meal to a customer that is not the very best quality meal he/she has cooked? Cost of the roast dinners were (rightly) taken off the bill but that’s not the point. Very disappointed. We won’t be rushing back any time soon

It’s the first time we have been here in a couple of years but when we are visiting family we always have to come. During these difficult times the Tavern have done really well with the social distancing and we felt safe with our young family. The food was just as good as we remembered, and the service was safe and friendly and you can feel the passion within the staff to look after the customers.

Another good discovery for lunch in the St.A area. We ate in the pub area rather than the dining room - this was atmospheric, a good retro / traditional setting. The food was freshly prepared and there were specials on the menu which we sampled. Smaller portions for the young and elderly. Well worth the short trip out of town.

Glad we chose here, table had a lovely view despite poor weather. We ordered two starters and a main to arrive all at once to make our own tapas style meal. The haggis and smoked salmon starters were absolutely superb and the burger main was excellent cooked just pink and had a lovely flavour. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely visit again.

We've had some amazing meals here over the years, all the family, from the youngest to the oldest. Their burgers are huge, fish is always fresh and I had a hunk of belly pork the other day that was the size of a full joint. Delicious too. We also had a couple of the large mushrooms with haggis, black pudding and whisky. Worth driving to Scotland for! They have a decent wine list too (but are sold out of Sauv' Blanc every time we go) as well as a couple of good real ales - the Island hopping pale ale was very palatable. Sadly my wife had a poor weak bland salmon risotto, but its the only time we've been disappointed, a pity it was her birthday. The hot scones and butter pre your starter are sheer heaven, and if you can site outside on a warm night, you will find few better places.

It was suggested we eat here when on holiday in the area. The staff were friendly, were wearing masks and social distancing was being observed. However, the food was disappointing. We decided to have burgers but the meal was basic and the burgers were dry and burnt. We won't be back.

I took the family to the Tavern at the start of August to celebrate my partners birthday, I won't say which one. There was 16 of us but that caused the owners and their team no problems. We were able to enjoy a drink and a meet and greet in the library room and then our orders were taken and we were left to relax until our meals were ready. We were then taken to the restaurant and the food was served very promptly and efficiently. Thank you and well done to the team. I went for fish pie which was delicious but the steak pie seemed to get rave reviews. The portions are big so if you go mid to late afternoon probably best to give breakfast a miss. We then went back to the library room for a couple of drinks. It was all so relaxing. One thing I noticed was when I settled the bill the owner thanked me by name, a small thing but it was nice to hear. Thank you for a fantastic day and I would highly recommend the Tavern at Strathkinness

We were recommended to eat here in 2018 and enjoyed the food so much that we had to go back in our return to the area in 2019. It didn’t disappoint, the food and service here are absolutely fabulous and the food is fairly priced. If you can squeeze in a pudding (portion sizes are very generous!) then do so...you will not be disappointed!

Booked a table for 7pm as we had been a long time ago and keen to see what it was like now. Arrived to be told there wasn't a table and the bar seating area was available if OK. Later we were told a table had become available but we didn't want to move by that time. We ordered drinks they arrived swiftly, ordered chicken with haggis and hot toddy sauce and waited a reasonable amount of time. The food was lovely, chicken nice and soft, haggis was tasty but not over spiced, sauce was creamy and just right not too much whisky. Chips were good and veg mixture just perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed, sadly full so didn't have room for any dessert but have booked it again so tells you it's good value for great food and service was nice and friendly. Seemed a nice friendly atmosphere.

What a find. Great welcome from the moment I walked in. The owner, had great knowledge of his product and his enthusiasm for food and beverage simply shines through. Louise served in the restaurant with charm, finesse and friendliness. Anywhere that offers a huge garlic scone as an amuse bouche is off to a flier in my book. The starter of king scallops and black pudding served on a bed of pea jus was sublime and the fresh and light Albariño only enhanced the flavours messing with my senses. The melt in your mouth steak pie which followed, with hand cut chips and deliciously presented seasonal veg- forced the procurement of a beautiful fruit driven Rioja crianza. Heaven, and two bites into the starter I booked again for 2 days later. I could have had any one of the desserts but plumped (appropriate) for the meringue, strawberry ice cream and Chantilly and Graham sneaked me an off piste glass of Aus Chardonnay dessert wine. The cost of all of this was ludicrously fair given the incredible quality of ingredients and skill deployed in preparing and presenting to guests. I waddled home incredibly happy. Seriously, a very high benchmark has been set for all local hostelries. Thank you.

My wife and I were staying close by for the weekend, and saw the Tavern was walking distance, so we chanced our arm with a last minute booking. There was a function on, filling the main dining room, so we were in a seperate room. We were worried we might be forgotten about but it was the opposite - staff were on the money, very quick and attentive. I had the fish tacos and pork belly and my wife had the haggis and mushrooms and risotto. The quality of the food was unbelievable, especially for the price. Our two courses, two beers and a bottle of wine was around £100 and worth every penny. At the end of the meal, we asked if there was a local shop as we needed milk for tea in the morning. Unfortunately there wasn't, but after we asked for the bill, the bill came with a bottle of milk from the kitchen, as they 'couldn't see us go without a cup of tea'. If you're in the area, go out of your way to visit. If you're not, go out of your way to visit.
