Family Night Out

Lovely pub with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Went as a family of 8, 7 adults and 1 child. All arrived in time for our 7:30pm New Year’s Eve booking. There was a bit of a slow start (waited around 15-20 minutes after being seated for our drinks order to be taken) but after taking our drinks order all went smoothly. There was an issue with one of the starters where 3 of the party had ordered the same starter but the portion size was less on one of them (easy mistake to make given the Restaraunt was jam packed and extremely busy). Once staff were informed of this, the matter was quickly rectified. Meals, both starters and mains were to die for. Portion sizes were plentiful and arrived at the table piping hot. Staff, when asked for extra portions attended our needs immediately they were informed. Although some of the normal pub grub foods such as the curry and lasagne were a bit on the expensive side, we will definately be returning, as we all agreed this was the nicest meal we had received in a long time and as such don’t mind paying. One thing I will say though is we had paid a pre booking fee to secure our booking but when the bill arrived this had not been deducted from the total sum, so make sure you check the bill before paying. A huge thank you to all the staff and the chef who helped make our night out a good one.

Lovely welcoming Pub.

First visit and wont be the last. Took my daughter and grandaughter for a farewell dinner before they returned to England. The Staff were really welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious, my daughter and I had the Sea Bass, it was massive and we had the home cooked chips which were a real treat as usually its frozen chips My grand daughter had beer battered fish and chips, which she really enjoyed. Desserts were massive - we could not finish them unfortunately. The meals are not cheap but they were well cooked and we had no complaints whatsoever.

Large group booking, a first class experience

We came to The Old White Horse Inn for Sunday lunch with a large group of friends. Our table was booked for the last sitting and we were convinced that many of the dishes on the menu would be unavailable. The only thing they didn't have was one of the desserts. The service was first class, the restaurant has a friendly and cosy atmosphere and the food far exceeded our expectations. Absolutely delicious roast meals with a plentiful supply of fresh vegetables and gravy boats. Some of the people on our table had 'tricky' orders but the staff weren't phased by it and everything was served exactly as requested. We will definitely be returning as it was an excellent experience.

AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT FROZEN MEALS!

What idiots are giving this place five star reviews? Myself and a group of girls went here recently. The starters and main meals were freezing cold! One of my fiends vegetarian dish was frozen in the middle. She demanded her money back! Very expensive for rubbish meals. The waiting staff were chatting all the time amongst themselves and someone stated the cook had all doors and windows open in the kitchen! No wonder the meals are cold! Where is the Proprietor not to eradicate this? If you are thinking or booking here for Xmas parties, forget it, unless you want expensive drinks, cold sub-standard meals, and a cook/staff who are hot, unlike the meals and chatterboxes typical of this area I’m afraid. Perhaps Mickey Mouse is wearing White Horse badges nowadays.

Sunday lunch in the falls

We went here as a last minute booking for Sunday lunch and they were very accommodating. It was very busy even though a wet windy day and there was a small wait for our table. Once seated, the food arrived quickly and was very tasty. The hostess Natalie was very friendly and helpful and dealt with any questions promptly. The food selection for our dog was also great value and Vinny opted for a dish of roast beef for £4! The dessert was very nice but fiddly trying to put the cream into the crumble which was in a cup. Aesthetically pleasing but slightly impractical! Vinny rated it 10/10.

Just the sort of local anybody would like to have, and an object lesson in customer focus for many establishments

From the moment of arrival until leaving we felt valued. A warm and friendly welcome, shown to a table and served our drinks. Having ordered from the extensive menu a short wait proved worthwhile as when the food arrived it had obviously been freshly prepared. Fish and chips and a Chicken curry were served, both delicious and home made, no plastic food here! Syrup sponge to finish, to be recommended. Ignore the 10 % of negative reviews, do yourself a favour and visit if you are near by, or even, like us staying in a hotel some 20 minutes away. This is the sort of local anyone would like near to their home, sadly for us it’s 250 miles away from ours!

nice welcome orderd food i ordered mash came wv chips, had to ask for condiments an sauces, desert was very expensive i had sticky toffee pudd…. it came cold my son had the curry tasted okish? he has very upset stomach an sickness today? it is usually nice food there and service but wnt be rushing back has gone very expensive for what u have?

Friendly pub which accommodated our requirements

We were visiting the waterfalls on a Sunday and stopped here for lunch. The pub were serving a Sunday roast lunch menu but we were after something a little lighter due to being about to go on a hike. The pub were very accommodating and found something which served our needs and which was delicious. We also saw the roast dinners being served and these looked equally delicious and in huge portions; we were pleased we ate something light!

Amazing Sunday Experience

Booked here for 9 of us on Sunday July 21st for my mother’s birthday, and all I can say is wow! The staff were very welcoming and attentive, had a great selection of beers/lagers, and the food was simply amazing! Great quality meats and the gravy was to die for! Had the Terry’s chocolate orange cheesecake for dessert afterwards, perfect way to finish a lovely meal. Highly recommend, will definitely be back soon!

Outstanding Sunday lunch , dog friendly too

The White horse was recommended by a work colleague and it surely lived up to the recommendation. Dog friendly which was a plus for us, the food was delicious especially the homemade cheesecake and service was outstanding, very attentive. If you have a birthday meal there they go above and beyond. Thoroughly recommend this great pub and can’t wait to come back.

Disappointing after 5 years of good service

We have enjoyed 5 years of good food and service, but tonight having arrived at 7pm, and ordered at 7.15, we were still waiting at 8pm. And a table next to us who arrived after us were served,and also a table of 8 were served, who also arrived half hour after us. We complained to be told they'd lost our order. Very disappointing and unacceptable. So, we left. Such a shame, we loved this place and so disappointing .

Cosy and efficient

Booked a table for the Friday after Christmas. Planned on a family walk to the falls with a lunch after. We arrived and was greeted by a very friendly lady. We ordered drinks and three mains me another and my son. Now my son is incredibly fussy. We asked could he have the children’s chicken nuggets as an adult main as he’s autistic. They were happy to do this. Two steak and ale pies one with chips and mash and cheese garlic bread. I know the waitress was worried as my son hardly touched his but honestly he’s so fussy. We tried some and it was fine. The bread was amazing he loved that. The steak and ale was stunning, mash was lovely. Only negative is the menu said it came with garden peas and there were no peas. Other than that it was lovely. A bit pricy £71 for three of us but good quality food. Would come back, without the fussy son!

Fabulous Breakfast and Welcoming Staff

We were recommended The Old White Horse Inn, just within the Brecon Beacons National Park, as they had started a breakfast service. You will not be disappointed. The breakfast menu has a great range of choices. I had a small breakfast and my husband went for the full option which he found hard to finish as there was so much of it. You can tell a good breakfast by the quality of the sausages, these are great.

Excellent Pub, Food and Staff

As a tourist in the area I would highly recommend visiting. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcomed. The service through out the meal was brilliant. The food was amazing will certainly be back next time. Also for anyone with dogs with them the pub is very dog friendly and even serves dog dinners!!

A Welsh Gem

Where do I begin? After a tiresome afternoon ascending Pen y Fan, my fellow weary travellers and I looked for sustenance close to our campsite. By chance, we discovered this Inn, having already visited two other local pubs. Even given short notice, the pub were accommodating for a party of 10, and we were warmly received upon arrival. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. The lady at the bar (name unknown) was a real asset to the Inn, always making sure our glasses were filled and orders were accurate. To add to the friendly atmosphere was a great choice of music- from country to pop- there was something for everyone. Now for the part you’ve all been waiting for. I ordered a mixed grill, including homemade chips, beef steak, pork, gammon and fresh local sausage. Wow. The chips were crisp, fluffy, and extremely well seasoned. Paired with a fresh garlic mayonnaise, they were swiftly demolished. Each piece of meat was tender, flavoursome, and well grilled. No gristle or chewiness to report. Attention to detail was the real champion of the evening, from the seasoning of the tomatoes and mushrooms (the best in my experience) to the runny yolk atop the juicy gammon - care in the cooking really took it to a new level. Finally onto the pudding, where a warm jam sponge with custard (and a scoop of vanilla ice cream) greeted my tastebuds to see out the evening. A well balanced sponge, neither too sweet nor too bland, paired with hot (though not homemade) custard, made for the perfect round up to the evening. 10 very happy customers, who would travel 300 miles to eat there again. 9.2/10
