Had our first date here on 23.08.1993 so delighted to revisit and find it has been wonderfully refurbished with new management. The Manager, Ian, is so welcoming and the pub itself is very inviting and very relaxed. We've been twice so far recently, dinner with the family and Sunday lunch. Both delicious and washed down with a great choice of... More

The Cross Guns is a delightful 16th Century country pub situated in the tiny north Wiltshire hamlet of Avoncliff, a collection of cottages and former textile mills built from mellow Jurassic limestone, which nestles in an idyllic location on the steeply-sloping bank of the River Avon halfway between Bath and Trowbridge. Although it's notoriously difficult to access the "Cross Guns"... More

Attended the launch of the new Cross Guns this week -under NEW management. Not only is the interior so beautifully done, but the outside re-vamp will make eating here a pleasure in the summer evenings. New and experienced management team and staff, and a very warm welcome from Jack the new owner. Can't wait to eat here and have properly... More

We walked to this pub today 28th January to find the pub was closed for refurbishment - no mention of this on the website and even locals in Bradford advised trying it out. We caught the train back and met up with other disappointed customers hoping to visit The Cross Guns who told us there was a sign in town... More

We had a lunchtime snack at the Cross Guns pub on New Year's Eve and were very disappointed with the standard of food. The mulled wine tasted like cheap warm wine with no added spices, the mushroom soup was revolting and inedible, the Brie and cranberry paninis were like eating jam with minimal Brie. We complained about the soup and... More

Use to come here many years ago, and read some slightly worrying reviews on here about it, but was pleasantly surprised, the burger was outstanding, the place was buzzing by 12.15pm glad we arrived as early as we did, would definitely go back, only down side was the toilets outside and they were very cold, I'm sure they were inside... Really nice pub right by the canal in Avoncliff. Walked here and were rewarded with a mulled cider and warm mince pie for only £3! Very nice interior, outside space also available.

We had a party of nine for a nice sunday lunch and when we showed up the place was packed. But they managed to somehow get us all in at a couple of tables. It was cold and rainy outside but the atmosphere inside was cozy and warm. The sunday roast was delicious and the pints of ale tasty. This... More

Poor quality food and £4.80 for a pint can see why out of the summer months the place like tonight is dead. Travel a little further to Bradford-on -Avon.
