On a rainy day in Matlock, we stumbled upon this unpretentious little cafe. The welcome was warm and the food was home-cooked and delicious. There was great chatter going on and nobody seemed in a rush to be heading off nor was anyone made to feel rushed. We had home-made vegetable soup (with bread) and a toasted sandwich. The soup... We have visited this lovely cafe on many occasions, the food is cooked to order and therefore fresh but this may cause a slight delay during busy times. We have always enjoyed our visits here and the menu can be adapted to vegeterian or vegan, Roger and Val are happy to adapt if possible. It has a friendly atmosphere, great... More

Decent sandwiches just what was needed for our lymestone way walk, close to the station and start of the walk. Clean and tidy fair-trade items.

Little place off the main drag, large portions, superb service, inexpensive menu but not the quality of food, plus added bonus of FREE WIFI. 10% off for Derbyshire's gold card holders on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday.

We popped into the cafe just before lunch time and placed our orders of beans, tomatoes and mushrooms on toast and a bowl of freshly made leek and potato soup with crusty bread. The food is cooked to order and they use delicious quality ingredients. They offer a varied menu and also a special dish of the day, and the... More

Very friendly and accommodating cafe. The owner, Roger, did his utmost to accommodate my vegetarian, gluten intolerant husband. Good value for money. Would definitely recommend.

Popped in the Black Cat Café Matlock to get out of the rain, and found the outstanding café. This place is clean and very friendly, menu provides snacks and simple meals all homemade. The Belgian hot chocolate is amazing you get a chunk of chocolate on a stick to melt in you very hot milk no instant powder here.

On the start of our holiday, we left home at silly o clock, so were in desperate need of breakfasts. I'd read the reviews on trip advisor, was impressed, so hubby and myself decided to find the Black Cat cafe and we were not disappointed. Lovely welcome, warm, clean and just smashing. We both ordered the largest breakfast, and what... More
