Lovely lunch here. As a vegan, I wondered what I could eat. It was no problem at all, I had a lovely red pepper and mushroom dhal. I'd really recommend. (My husband had mac and cheese, looked lovely and he enjoyed.)

The water rat is 5 minutes walk away....great setting, lovely pub, extremely pleasant staff....and the food is lovely. We had our first Sunday lunch yesterday...... It was excellent! Fab location right along side the river and close to the centre being only a short stroll away from the cathedral. Basic pub grub menu at reasonable prices. there is a shallow gravelled area were kids paddled in the river and a small weir which adds the noise of running water but expect it could become noisy in really hot... Lovely pub and restaurant. Eat in the conservatory overlooking the river complete with ducks and ducklings. Sunday Carvery or menu during the week. Super staff even though the lovely Helen has moved on to pastures new.

A group of friends visited for an early evening drink. A loveley setting on the bank of the River Skell, with plenty of seating on the outside terrace and a very comfortable bar, with interesting pictures and decorations. Service was pleasant and welcoming and there was a good selection of beers available. We did not eat at the Water Rat... More

Lovely outside eating, nice looking pub. We ordered when we arrived but had to wait half an hour for our meals. My husband went in and brought the drinks out. I ordered the signature dish of pie, no bottom pastry so really not a pie, and when it arrived the pastry was raw! We told the waitress who asked if... More

On one of the first warm sunny weekends of the year we opted to eat outside . The main attraction of this traditional pub is its charming position by a small pedestrian bridge over the river Skell. There is a terrace alongside the pub next to a riverside public path, with views over the Alma wier and back across the... More

We had high hopes for this place after visiting for drinks previously. Booked a table.. it took ages. Half an hour to have our drinks brought to us. I wish we'd left like another table did. No pie left, thats the signature dish and the reason we went. The food was terrible... the burger was in a totally dry unbuttered... More

Good pub, good beer. Disappointing meal. The pub has good basic pub grub, but cannot produce a decent steak. Really down on the list of decent meals.
