Excellent food served in comfortable surroundings. The seafood chowder is just amazing, served as a creamy veloute sauce with lots of delicious fish ( mixed). Nice atmosphere, now we are in March but I also know how busy it gets from April onwards! If you are going during the tourist season, I might suggest you pre book a table (... More

I visited monks with my mother as we were visiting 'The Burren'. The restaurant is situated by the sea and has beautiful views, a lovely bar and EXCELLENT customer service. All staff were very attentive and genuine. My mother did not have her glasses and ordered linguine with clams and mussels. Unfortunately she cannot have anything dairy due to kidney... More

What a gem, we found this while driving on the Wild Atlantic way and decided to stop of for a bite to eat. We had a dog so sat outside, service was very good and the waiters even brought some water out for the dog. Food was lovely and fresh. We will remember this for our next trip to Ireland

Cute place, clean, friendly, good chowder and soup. Main course was good as well. Great view of the Atlantic. Nice fireplace to get out of the weather.

I was traveling with Irish family and friends (I'm American) and we all enjoyed this place. I found it very authentic, with lots of fresh seafood options. We had crab, clam chowder, chicken, Fries, and mussels and everything was very fresh and tasty. We also had about 3 bottles of wine. Everything was reasonably priced (especially compared to New York... More

My sister-in-law convinced us to go to Ballyvaughan instead of coming up to Achill Island where she lives. She said we'd find more to do in that part of Ireland since it's not as remote as Achill, and besides, we'd be able to eat at Monk's. That was in 2008. Since then, we've been back to Ballyvaughan at least five... More
