We stopped at Ocean's Reach for a lunchtime drink. We were not sure whether we would be welcome for just a drink but the welcome we received was just perfect. Service with a smile. Certainly an enormous improvement on some welcomes we have received this...week!!More

It's difficult to be positive about a place if (for whatever reason) the doors are closed and no one is advised. That's what happened at the Ocean Restaurant at Bolberry, a totally isolated establ;ish on the South Hams cliffs. On the day we visited, in...the space of a quarter of an hour, at least a dozen people followed us from the car [park gateway to the restaurant to discover it was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There were no signs closer to the car park to warn agauinst making a wasted quaretr-mile walk. A pity.More

Having booked in advance and received a reminder email of my reservation the day before , I arrived at the restaurant to find s chalk board saying that the restaurant was closed. To add insult to injury it said that they had informed customers by...email and phone . They certainly didn't inform me. Very poor service.More

Very disappointing. Stopped off to get lunch. They said they could only allow us to sit outside and they were not serving lunch. All they had to offer in the way of snacks was a tiny portion of brownie and lemon drizzle cake. They charged...us £8.10 for two bottles of still water and the meagre portions of cake.More

As so many locals had recommended it, we booked this restaurant well in advance of our visit to the area. This was acknowledged on-line. We then had a call 10 days before our 14 Sep booking saying, with no apology, that our booking would have...to be cancelled and reinstated for the next evening at a later time. This didn't suit us as well but we agreed. An email was then sent only about the cancellation but no new booking. After another call we were told everything was OK and we received subsequent emails saying that our table would be lost if we were over 15 minutes late and that we could only stay two hours unless we requested an extension. We therefore arrived right on time for the (trebly) booked evening of 15 Sep, only to find the place was in complete darkness and unopen. We have made many unanswered phone calls to them since and have not recieved any reply to our email. If they are having unforeseen problems due to staff issues or Covid, this is understandable. But it's totally unacceptable not to have contacted us as they had all our details. Frankly this ruined the last evening of an otherwise fabulous holiday, as at 9pm we were unable to find anywhere else locally to eat out. All very unprofessional of them and disappointing for us!More

I so hope that a previous reviewer was wrong about Oceans having closed. We had a fabulous dinner in this unpretentious restaurant. If you like mussels, then this is the place to get fat juicy HUGE ones - and masses of them! My starter of...mussels was what I have been given for mains in other restaurants. I have never seen such a huge pile of them served up for a main course before. The fish and chips.....beautiful flaky white fish - again, so large.... and the Portuguese tiger prawns were just fantastic. We didn't have room for desserts but we will make sure we make just a little space next time we go. The staff are great - and the whole place is lovely and clean. Fabulous.More

I booked this restaurant many months ago for a special birthday celebration. A party of 12 for the 18th of September. On the morning of the 18th I received a phone call from them which I missed. No voice mail. I tried for several hours...to ring them but with no response. Later that day we visited the restaurant to confirm the booking. It was shut and a young lad outside said it was shut for the foreseeable future. We then tried to find an alternative restaurant. At short notice this was impossible. So disappointed with their lack of professionalism and empathy. I have messaged for an explanation today but as of yet I haven’t had a reply. If I hadn’t turned up and they had lost 12 covers with the associated profit I’m sure they wouldn’t have been happy.More

Went for dinner. Small menu (always a plus for us) food was lovely - we had the seafood dish of the day which was gorgeous. No room for dessert which was sad as we would have liked to try these. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

We booked this in April in anticipation of our September visit. 4 weeks ago it was cancelled due to staffing issues and we were invited to call and rebook, which we did cancelling another booking elsewhere. Walked up there on Weds 15th Sept from Thurlestone...(6 miles) and it was closed, but a chef told us the restaurant was open in the evening. Rocked up at 7pm, dark, no lights, no people. No message to say it was shut except a board outside. No call even thought they had our number. I get the staff problem, but this was massively unprofessional, very poor, we shan't bother again. Had superb meal at the Crabshell Inn in Kingsbridge instead even though they were very busy.More

Wow, wow and wow… We have just arrived for lunch on the most beautiful day.. absolutely stunning location and the staff are so welcoming and helpful… The restaurant is set in the most stunning of locations and a lovely 1.75 mile walk from hope cove.....I cannot recommend this place enough to either sit of the terrace with a local Pilsner, Pale Ale or cocktail.. or indulge in an amazing lunch or dinner .. but please book… it’s not difficult, it makes sense… Again the staff are amazing and couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough 😉More

We recently went for a baby shower here and had a vegan in our party, I did ring in advance and they did a fantastic alternative for her.
